As most of you probably know(whether you care or not), today was Superbowl Sunday. Of course, that means the obligatory Superbowl party; that also means the Superbowl poker tournament. Every year we get together we hold a 16 man poker tournament with a $25 entry fee and the top 4 get paid. It's nothing too serious, but always good fun. As you can probably tell by my title, this was my year.
Over roughly 5 hours I experienced the typical ups and downs of low-stakes gambling. I got lucky early by checking my way to the river where I hit my ace. A little bit later I cemented my lead with a straight. Of course, I got too aggressive and lost most of it back, and then the rest was slowly eaten away by blinds. I was able to keep myself alive long enough to get to the bubble though, where I doubled up and knocked out another short stack. From there I nickeled and dimed my way to a respectable stack while 3rd and 4th got taken out.
Then it was the show down with the big stack. We jostled back and forth a bit without any major action, until the big one came. It was A-9 vs J-10, both offsuit. I was actually behind going into the river, and had already committed a good amount of my stack, but got really lucky when another spade came up and completed my flush with the ace; even more so since it also completed my opponents flush. After that I took a commanding lead and basically forced him to all-in on any hand where I had anything decent. I ended up winning with A-3 vs K-8, and took home the $200 first prize.
The funniest part was the guy who finished 4th was super serious and even had a Phil Locke card protector. He pretty much left right after it was over.
So yea, that's my brag blog. Now I need to get to sleep since I have to work in the morning :r
