Location for my Korean Exchange confirmed

So finally after waiting a long time, a couple of days ago I just got the location where I will be staying for the year during my Highschool Exchange to South Korea.

During the interview process I was asked in what kind of host family I would like to become apart of. I really wanted a larger family, host siblings around my age and in a city or suburbs. When I finally got the information of my host family I was really happy to see that all of this was met. I couldn't ask for a better host family based on what my preferences were. The family is significantly larger then what I have here in Canada, it is just me and my mom here but there it will be my host father, host mother, and grandparents as well. There are two host siblings but both are studying in the US and I am not sure if they will be back in Korea while I am there but hopefully they do come back.

When I was asked what my preferences were in regards to location, all I said was that I would prefer the suburbs or city. I got exactly what I wanted. I will be staying in Uiwang-Shi. It is in Kyounggi, the province that Seoul is apart of. Just by looking at the map I'm pretty sure Uiwang is a suburb of Seoul, which is exactly what I wanted, So this is great news.

The school that I'm going to is called Indeogwon High School, I don't know a lot about it. Just that is is Anyang, which is a decent commute from Uiwang, I believe it is 4 or 5 stops from Uiwang station via subway. Besides that after doing a little bit of research, I am pretty sure the school uniforms are purple which I think is pretty cool.

So that is about it for updates. My Korean is coming along pretty well, I am practising with one of my Korean friends at school but otherwise I still have a long way to go till I feel even remotely comfortable.

I am getting real excited for my departure on February 17th. If anyone here know anything about the area or has been there before I would appreciate any information.

That's awesome dude! Korea's a lot of fun. I don't know much about your area (can't say I strayed into many suburbs during my stay) but Seoul is incredible. Good luck and have fun brother :D

From what I've read, from other Korean Exchange blog posts, Korean exchange is insane fun if you go when you're in university because them Koreans are making up for 6 years of less-than-their-Western-counterpart amount of fun. I doubt that's the case if you're in high school though because everyone is studying uber hard. If you're grade 12 then all your classmates will be studying for the national exams. None the less, hope you have fun while studying uber hard! (Studying #1!)

I'm just curious, are you from Toronto or surrounding suburbs? You mentioned practicing Korean with schoolmates/friends and I can't imagine there being Koreans anywhere else. Maybe Vancouver? But that it's more Chinese there than Asian.

I am from Mississauga so yeah suburbs, I thought about everyone else studying super hard but I still I really want to go. And maybe if I do make it into Uni in Canada I could go back again there for university if I like a lot.

If you decide to apply for a school in the States, this exchange could strengthen your application quite a bit given that it's not something ordinary.

Not sure about Canadian universities though, as they basically just look at your grades, don't know how much the exchange would help.
