I've been so busy past few months that I haven't been able to play a game since August or so (when did season 2 end again?). I used to be like high master (1800 master rating end of season 2) before I had to focus on school. I wonder how far my level has degraded :D
Anyways I'm in my senior year of CS and I've got a half year left before I hopefully graduate.
My mentor gave me 2 assignment for my minor of which I already finished 1 assignment.
My first assignment was to build a simple Java application with a lot of written documentation.
My second and coolest assignment I have gotten the past 4 years is to build a game in Objective-C for any iOS device / Mac OS which I have to spent about 224 hours into learning and building the game and so far I've spent about 60 hours on this assignment.
I was so relieved that I could do an assignment like this :D My mentor is specialized in C (although I don't know if I should call it specialized LOL).
For the more experienced programmers reading this. At my college we don't get any form of C at all for programming. The education is heavily focussed on Java with NetBeans (as the tool) which really doesn't suit me at all to say the least.
For anyone wondering what I'm using for my game. I'm developing in XCode (although I wonder if you could use any other tool to develop iOS apps) using Cocos2D as my game engine in which my game is going to be a 2D RPG with a turn based fighting system like the old school Final Fantasy games.
Right now I've almost build the entire battle system (turn based battle system) using touch input.
Let me tell you that it's so hard and frustrating for a beginner stepping into game programming from a Java background in which you have never been taught any form of C at all.
It was frustrating at times but I kept going and going until I managed to get the battle system right.
I still have more than 150 hours left to make the spells, design the levels, getting the game art up to decent level (I suck so bad at drawing) and use original music and of course testing my game.
Overall I've enjoyed the process of building the game and coming up with all the solutions to all the different problems you get to face when you're programming.
Because of this I've been asked by several companies that were affiliated with my college for developing iOS apps as no one else in the entire senior year is learning it or knows it.
I hope that I can pass my assignment and go on to finish my senior year :D
Now on to some other things I'd like to talk about.
Past few weeks I've seen old and new movies like Immortals,MI4, Contact, Ra-One, Slumdog Millionaire, A Beautiful Mind and some movies really impressed me :OOOOO
Immortals:
I didn't really like it but what caught my attention is that when I saw the hero (or w/e his name was) I thought I saw Artosis... (Someone Photoshop that guy with Artosis's head on top and tell me you disagree).
Everytime I saw his face I thought it was Artosis LOL. This is not a diss towards Artosis.
MI4:
It was okay but not really exciting imo. I liked the tower stunt by Tom Cruise but that's about it >.>
Contact:
Oldschool movie but damn I really enjoyed watching that movie. I was really surprised but I really think that movie is good for those that disagree! I won't spoiler people what the movie is about so go check it up on yourself
Ra-One:
I got this message by an Indian friend of mine that said this movie was quite funny and badass and that if I liked comedy and if I like Terminator then I should go watch this movie.
Well Overall I'd say that it is indeed sort of a mix of comedy and Terminator but on a really low level of acting.
One of the actresses was quite beautiful (damn Indian women so beautiful lol) and really reminded me from somewhere (idk maybe some other big movie I might have seen her play in).
Slumdog Millionaire:
OH MY GOD!
That's all I have to say on the sheer awesomeness this movie was about.
My parents said that they lived a similar life like this back in Vietnam like 50 years ago or so and this movie showed me how lucky I and you readers truly are for not being born in such miserable circumstances.
Watch this movie if you want to watch an awesome movie!!
A Beautiful Mind:
HOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLYYYYYYY DAMN!
I used to saw this movie and thought it was so good and this movie made me a fan of Russel Crowe and when I watched the movie again I WAS BLOWN AWAY again when I watched this on tv.
Truly a good movie which can show you a side of people you might never understand yourself.
Hmm will post later more about some nice stuff I've seen/heard/read in my life :D
I hope you guys enjoyed this blog and a happy new year to everyone!
