I was watching a GSL vod the other day.Check vs sage. ZvP.
Anyways, the protoss was real sneaky with his probes (scouts) and he managed to sneak into the Z main and force him to cancel his roach warren to defend from the scout. It got me to thinking.

Although the new building cancel info is great for commentary etc. It may not be so great for the players. In bw there was always that unknown factor if you were taking down a nexus or whatever and u can't be 100% sure if you killed it or he cancelled. The value of this information can change your build order entirely.

So when the P scouted the Z and he forced the roach warren cancel he saw the numbers linger after popping up with his probe even though he may not have seen the warren and knew something was going on (and could probably infer what the structure was by the cost of it).

Beyond that there is a minor imbalance in building cancelling. For zerg the buildings explode and leave this black shit on the ground for a great length of time. So even if he missed the lingering numbers he would have still known there was something there cancelled.
When protoss cancel the warp in just goes away and there is no trace. (For the life of me I can't remember exactly what happens for terran cancels but I'm sure someone can fill in the blank).

I don't think anyone will agree to do away with the numbers popping up but I at least think protoss should have something similar signifying a cancelled structure for the same length of time as zerg.

Maybe like an imploding black hole or just some light particles dropping on the floor for a while.

Here are some pics of Z cancel from the game

Did zerg have this exploding animation for cancelled structures in bw? I think the drone just sucked everything back into itself (just a reverse of the build animation).

To balance this I think that once a Protoss building is warping in, it should not be able to be canceled. I mean you are warping in a building from Auir, what happens when you cancel it? 1/2 a building left on Auir that is useless?

For 1 you don't actually see the numbers of your opponents canceled buildings, and second protoss and terran buildings do leave a rubble of sorts for example:

They both stick around about as long as the Zerg building guts

What we should really be discussing is the fact that those remains are not there when playing on low, so are they at a disadvantage?

man stop trolling. If you are being serious though, they are just scanning it and preparing it for warp in. It doesnt actually do anything until the final moment.

ah that must be why then. I've always played on low.

how can you be serious about calling the different building mechanics imba, its totally different for each race so the cancelling is different too and actually its pretty cool the way it is different for each race

I think blizzard did that because of maruader drops iirc.

No only hatcheries (+ other zerg buildings) and Nexus were effected.

Assimilators always been like that, sup.

I thought they put it in because the salvage and cancel animations were the same and even Terran players themselves couldn't tell if they got the salvage off in time or not unless they watched their income closely. I just hate how inelegant it is. At no other time are action being spelled out and costs popping up on the field of play. It would be nice if they made separate animations for HOTS if they want everything to be unambiguous to the players.
It's supposed to be automatic but actually you have to press this button.

I know they have, I didn't say it was patched.

A difference between building cancels is NOT an imbalance. Races are supposed to play differently. I wish they had more little things with each race like building cancel times being different, to really give each race its own unique feel.

If the crap on the ground left behind when zerg cancels a building is imbalanced, then what about the stargate which shows you what kind of unit is building?
