nice introductory blog, i really like what you guys are doing with these, i had no idea TL harbored so many dota fans, so blogs like flamewheel's came as a bit of a shock. keep'em coming.

enjoyed it, thanks

EDIT: just a small typo in this paragraph
But doing a 2-1-2 set up with the solomiddle is not the only way to do it. There are heroes in the game that can utilize the jungle very efficiently and create sort of a 1-1-2 scenario where you have to solo lanes. You could also be tri-laning a hero to get two solo lanes too, which would be a 1-1-3 scenario.

Awesome guide. I play LoL and some HoN but I've never touched DotA. Cool to learn some of the basics and how they are the same and different from the other games. Hope I get a chance to check out the beta.

Oh! That was a nice video (pulling/stacking).

But I think you could give some more insight on the runes part, I heard a friend say it's not random. There's a sequence you can check the first runes, and then you can tell where the next one will appear.

Amazing guide bumble! This will be a good point to start for people that are new to the genre. On the other hand i think there's a lot of people that have played some kind of DotA-like game but not too much of real dota (like me, i played some dota but never learned how to really play, but i have played fair amount of HoN and LoL), so, could you write a guide focusing more on the in-depht picking and laning phase? i think that would be much needed for tons of people trying to move into DotA2
Also i think you should try to edit the time of the pulls for the videos, instead of pointing the clock with the mouse, because at least on my netbook i couldnt even tell what was the time.
P.S: I learned at least why roshan drop the cheese, i thought it was random lol, also, GIMME THE KEYYYYY

Nice guide, it is sure to explain concepts to new players to the dota-genre or differentiate dota from its counterparts. I hope flamewheel does make that laning phase guide. Laning has so much depth to it!

It is random. :-)

I am not sure if it should be every 8th minute, but it's something like that if not that exactly.

Would really like to get a key, really appreciate your work here, for me as a hon-player it is great to see the differences between the games before starting playing dota2

This is a very nice guide. It covers the space between the players who know their way around your run of the mill DotA-like and the players who can play DotA quite well. I think it is great to see these concepts being put together in a concise guide here. Thank you.

I think the guide explains the game perfectly for a new Dota player. I play Dota since a long long time now, and i didnt even know that killing rax gives less bounty for the enemy when they kill creeps :D
Nice to know, funny that I can still learn stuff after, I dont know 4-5 years playing (Dont know exactly)

Great write-up, I especially enjoyed the pulling guide, I've been playing DotA for over 5 years now but had never actually bothered trying double pulls by tango'ing a tree like that. I'm off to try this out right away! :D
