Thanks for the guide, I stopped playing dota years ago so this was great for refreshing on the basics.

It is always great to see a guide when laying a new game, even if it isn't really NEW!

Great guide, keep up the good work!

Nice guide Bumblebee. Although I already knew all this stuff, its nice to have so I can show it to my friends. I've tried to explain to them the differences between Dota and LoL but so far all they've understood is that you can "kill your own creeps?!?!" and that its somehow harder. Thnx again!.

Always good to have a guide about the basics. Also really neat to see the Dota 2 community picking up here and will be awesome to have more stuff like this in the future.

Well, I'll echo the thoughts of everyone else and chime in and say great guide. One thing I think people who write guides, (I tend to read alot of them) underestimate is the power of good images and visual representations of the things they are discussing. It makes such a huge difference. You may think that the things your describing are clear enough, or dont really require a screenshot, or are just plain lazy, but honesty is a huge addition. So I was pleased to see you incorporate alot of screenes, just reinforcing the topics you were talking about.

A key thing that I think is a very tough topic initially to grasp for most new players is the idea of creeps, and that you dont actually want to be pushing them up towards your enemy, at least intiially. What makes it confusing is that it seems so counter-intuitive. "Hey, these creeps are pushing towards my tower, I WANT to kill them and push em back, isn't the goal of the game to push towers and eventually kill their base!?" When you explain the concepts of ganking and distance from your own tower, and the dangers that it entitles, it all makes it quite confusing for a beginner. Heh, just another aspect of Dota that takes some time getting used to.

I almost feel that jungling itself is such a different aspect of the game then just standardly playing in a lane, that it requires a bigger description, but then realized that it would almost be overwhelming for most newer players, which would be counter productive for this guide. Just like normal lanes, one of the huge benefits of being in the jungle is that, since most people dont ward/keep track, you will generally always be missing, and could always be available for a gank or something mischievous. Makes them play more cautiously and you can sometimes exploit that fear.

This is actually an amazing guide. Coming from a low-profile DotA background, having spent most of my time with LoL(though not that much), I was looking forward to relearning a lot of the differences.

It's nice and simple, with some general tips that you'd have to find out to know. Thanks for the guide .

Hey Bumblebee,

Thanks for these blogs man. I was a huge fan of DotA in War3, and have been looking for something to fill that void for awhile. I tried getting into League of Legends. Alas, it is just not the same. I don't even enjoy HoN as much as the original. There is nothing like the feeling of running around as N'aix, and people are afraid to fight you when they are at full HP. Ahhhhh...the memories.

Please keep up these posts! It's awesome to see someone so dedicated to DotA, and TL.Net that they are willing to put in the time and effort to put out guides like this. Not nearly enough people are dedicated to teaching the new age the nuances of DotA, and i'm glad to see someone has taken that responsibility.

The same goes to Flamewheel. Thanks for the guides from you too man. I remember playing that guy in DotA, such a beast of a carry if he got a BFly.

Thanks again guys! Love the Blogs!

Cheers,

~Jitsu

Great guide, ever since coming back to WC3 dota (a month of so ago) I never realised the night vision decrease was so drastic. I guess aga really is amazing for nightstalker ^^.

Anyways a key would be nice .
