Thanks a lot for providing quality content to TL. I'm new to DotA, but not new to the "MOBA" genre. So this helps a lot, thanks! Here's a post for a shot at that key, also...

Thanks for posting this I never really got into dota when i was playing wc3 but found this genre more fun than I thought after playing a bit of LoL, hoping for a dota2 release soon.

Glad people are writing guides on fundamentals. The barrier to entry for DOTA has always been notoriously high, and it's time for it to be lowered. Thank you for this.

Nice guide, though about the rax I think its very important to note that melee rax's are significantly more important as the creeps just push so much harder. Though they have the same HP though, the ranged barracks has significantly less armor making it easier to kill so you may have to choose it if you're really pressed for time D:

The most basic of basics. Awesome. How about a guide on positioning? That's something noobs seem to get mixed up all the time.

Cheers for the "tl;dr" on pulling. I have played DotA for around 4 years now, clocking in close to a thousand games... but not until now did I think that one could double-pull like that as Sentinel. :/

Like some other people said in the comments, it would be interesting to add a little section on the melee/range rax and how the melee rax has priority on the range one. Also, maybe mention that the runes can be kept for later inside a bottle?

Anyhow, awesome guide, you and flamewheel are making wonders. I'm glad to see your guides are way better and noob-friendly then most guides out there, even on the dota forums. Sadly, these are mostly guides for new players and my friends and I have been playing for a couple of years now so it's not really helpful for either of us. However, I do have some friends who are willing to try DOTA because of the DOTA2 hype these days and I'll make sure I direct them to your guides so they can prepare for their couple of first games.

Do you plan on doing a guide for warding spots? It's probably THE thing that everyone should learn when they get into this game.

I love basic guides. When I first started DOTA all of my friends were better than me. But, being so competitive, I like read 20 guides a day and watched pro replays. I quickly passed up all of my friends.

One interesting thing is going from a basic guide to a more advanced one. Things like first rune is :00 and getting it for your solo middle is like imba gg.
