c0mput0rz, my faithful old laptop, finally broke it's second screen hinge, meaning I had to either prop the screen against something or hold it in order to use my computer. After almost four years of service to me, I decided I should get a new laptop.
I spent a long, long time searching around, getting different recommendations and doing research. While I love gaming computers, I actually generally put my laptop on my lap, which most people don't seem to do anymore. One article I read was talking about how a particular laptop was very hot on the bottom when running game, but how it shouldn't matter, since people wouldn't have it on their lap. I guess I'm a weirdo.
I had some specs I wanted, like at least 8gb of RAM, an i-7 quadcore and a sexy graphics card, I found my true love.
I introduce to you my new computer, t3hBeast:
Screen: 17.3" HD 1920 x 1080 CPU: Intel Core i7-2670QM 2.2GHz GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570M (1.5gb) RAM: 12GB of ddr3 HDD: 750GB at 7200rpm
In other words, it's a freaking powerhouse of a laptop. MSI also took special care to insure the quad core (which gets HOT) is properly cooled. The bonus is my laptop can actually go on my lap and survive without burning me, the drawback is this damn thing is 2.17" tall in the highest part. It's still fairly light, but it isn't far from looking like a big, black, shiny brick.
I could continue to ramble on about the amazing specs, but, instead, there is something else I have to comment on: the keyboard.
I had really hit up the SteelSeries booth while at Blizzcon, in fact, I won a free keyboard from them! While hanging out at their booth, I noticed a beautiful backlit keyboard on a laptop. It turns out that this MSI has the same keyboard and it's absolutely amazing. It's firm, the buttons are perfectly sized and extremely sensitive and it's designed to be a gaming keyboard, supporting the simultaneous pressing of 10 keys or more.
Yet, the girl inside of me appreciates something else about the keyboard, too:
It's adjustable.
It's pretty.
It's shiny.
And I made mine into a fucking rainbow:

Shit...I mean it's a great laptop and all but for 1500 I'd rather build a desktop that's 5x better, and then buy a cheaper laptop for word processing and shit on the go... do you actually game while that thing is on your lap? I read your post but can't tell if you have it in your lap while you game or just when doing other things. Also what mouse is that in the pic?

I need a laptop for school and I constantly travel between my dorm and my boyfriend's house (where I game). In order to suit my needs I would either need to build two gaming desktops and a work laptop... or just get a gaming laptop.
I often do game with it actually on my lap (my favorite place to play video games is on my bed).
And that is a Logitech M510. Not exactly a gaming mouse, but it's cheap, I kill my mice often and it is pretty good for a wireless. I have a few better mice I use but I take that one with me when I'm traveling.

Haha, no, I think I'd click on a blog with that title, too.

thats legit as fuck and im sure it could take a nice poop on my pc with no problem even though your is a lappy. I might end up doing this after I save a few of my paychecks. Does it play SC2 on Ultra with good fps? cause I may stream from this laptop as well.

I just got it today, so I haven't been able to install SC2 on it. Looking at the specs and what other people have experienced, it should be able to get about 55-70fps on Ultra depending on how many units are screwing around.

came into this blog expecting something more sexual but this was a great read either way.

I don't think that I could ever game with the computer on my lap, just too awkward on my arms having to be so bent lol, but it's awesome that you can. edit- also now that I've seen it the sticker still on the laptop bothers me lol. I like to take them off as soon as possible cause then the glue doesn't stick as much.

Yeah, I think I'll probably take them off tonight.
As for on my lap, I play leaning against a bunch of pillows and with my laptop almost to my knees, so my arms have no issue!

wow they build 12gb ram into laptops? who on earth is ever gonna need that? I guess if you play starcraft 2 and battlefield 3 and edit some stuff on photoshop and record sth on cubase and do a virus scan all at the same time you could get close to getting use out of that. Price seems alright though. People need to stop telling people theres no point in getting good laptops over desktop PCs.. guess what, some people travel around.

I have a tower PC and a 15`4 Laptop (which almost doesn`t fit in my backpack). I guess you need a car to be "mobile" with such a huge laptop^^. Nice hardware though.

Nah, I'm just a boss. I have a nice Swiss Army shoulder bag for 17" laptops and the weight doesn't bug me at all, it's only 10lbs.

The only thing my desktop has over your laptop is the hard drive and processor... I should probably upgrade soon.

Nothing cooler than a laptop you can play sc2 (or other relatively new games) on.
Going per train? Watch replays.
Not at home (visiting parents or stuff)? Still be able to play
I love my 13" laptop (God I hate big laptops. It seems so counterproductive for me. I heard enough reasons why big laptops are still usefull (and the reasons definitely do make sense) it's just a personal preferences I guess) which has way worse specs but is still able to handle sc2 on good settings.
I love your keyboard. I want one with pretty lights too.
