So a few days ago I joined a new minecraft server that had just reset everything so it was a fresh start. There is a faction mod so you can basically create your own faction and create land. You have a set amount of power you can use to claim land. Each member has 10 max power and loses power when they die.
My faction is called The Vikings. A neighboring faction next to us was called Hwasueng Oz. These people as you can probably guess became our enemy. A few of their members started trolling and claiming land that was too close for our comfort so our leader delcared war on their faction.
So we had a few skirmishes and then I went to bed. While I was gone they raided one of our leaders house's and stole a few valuebles. As retatliation he and a few others broke in killed them a few times and left without taking a thing. This did not go over so well with them.
By this time it is the next morning and we are all getting onto the server to see what's up. My friend Mag who lost all his iron was going on a mining run to gather some more iron for himself. While we were gone HwasuengOz faction broke into our lets say castle under construction. They killed us many times and thereby lowering our power. This meant that they could now claim our land and we would lose our access to our items. They plundered and destroyed many things that we had put some hard work into. The server admin told us that we should just fight back and if we still lost he would help us move farther north and make a new country for us to live in. So during all of this me and Mag mined enough iron to make about 6 sets of armour and some iron swords. (We had 6 members our of 9 fighting in this war) With the help of our godly friend Nameless from an ally faction he gave us 3 diamond swords to help give us more of a fighting chance. (During their raid they stole 14 diamond from us) So onec we had gotten all these items the 6 of us and our friend nameless went to battle. Luckily for us on the first raid Mag had set his home inside their (castle). So one after another we tele'd inside and started fighting. After about 10 minutes of ruthless fighting we had claimed land inside their castle and gained control of the doors. We then began to battle them and gain as much of their land as we could. We then found their room full of chest and items they stole from us. We kept taking runs back and forth into a new room on land we still owned and taking all of their items. We still had to keep fighting for a hour or so until we regained enough power to claim back our land. Finally we had done it and they ragequit and disbanded their faction giving us all our of land back.
The victory had not come without a cost thought, we had lost much of our hard work and spent hours after rebuilding it.

Sounds like a crazy battle! I didn't realise minecraft had that much PvP (player vs player). I thought it was about building stuff. Is the PvP part a latter edition?

Minecraft is awesome! So much to explore and the many mods make it that you never run out of things to do!

Pretty awesome story =) Minecraft sounds really fun, and I should probably try it just for the hell of it, but somehow I've been avoiding the issue since other games I'm interested in are coming out relatively soon.

Haha alright we are at the moment the most powerful faction on the server but if we get another opposition I will be sure to remember pictures for now I will show you our castle contrsuction next blog unless something good happens :D

How do server wars work? Wouldn't you get owned by attacks that happen whenever you are not online? As far as I know, it's probably a lot more work and effort to create defenses than it is to break through them. There are a lot of difficult adventure maps, but those rely a lot on monster spawners and relatively limited resources. I feel like with enough time, any defenses are relatively easy to get through, especially if there's no one online to repair things.

We're using a bunch of mods I installed. This is not vanilla adventure/SMP.

oh i'd like to state that their flowing lava fall i renovated and put into a room where one of them set their spawn to. so he was constantly dieing to lava

The land claim doesnt allow non clan people to break blocks, right?? if you declare war, does that change or what??
minecraft pvp has the potentially to be really cool, but there's a bunch of things that hold it back

Any other faction enemy or ally can't build blocks or break them on your land. the reason we could do it and vise versa was that the power lvls were lower. When they broke in and killed some of us we lost out power lvl. Then proceeded to turn into cave dwellers as we made our iron armour.

Haha you don't have to worry during our war there was a number of casualties taken by being snuck up on by creepers or when you are running away with low health an aggro chicken comes out and kills you

yes it is possible to have your own faction but keep it reasonable. The HwaseungOz used "Jaedong" and "4 sheeps"(that will despawn lolwut) as an excuse to raid The Vikings. Just be mature or look stupid disbanding in defeat.

Hopefully when the server gets moved it will be up more often than it is now. Don't know what is causing the current outage.

Off-topic story if anyone likes minecraft stories like these:
I played on a pvp server some time ago, i had an underground mine with a few friends, and at one point about 20-25 people all named mexican names joined the server, we thought it was funny so we split off to find out where they'd set up base.
After a good 20 min or more, i came to a medium sized island in a lake, i saw a lot of people from a distance; working on some sort of wooden construction hovering the water, i built a small house of wood to overlook the island and then i went closer and unto the island, where i saw an area with trees being planted and chopped by 3-4 guys, i looked down to the lower part of the island, where about 7-10 people where growing crops and building shacks of wood, all using models with a sombero, mustache and mexican clothes.
I stood around watching them constructing and gathering materials for a little while, then the guys chopping wood starting acting strange, the men from the field all started looking up on me, as the woodcutters started forming a half-circle around my back, and before i knew it, 15-20 of them were surrounding me, looking at my iron armor with hungry eyes, i gave my mates my coordinates and told them i might need some help in the nearby future.
One or two of them whom i presume came from a mine somewhere on the island, where walking around the surrounding circle, throwing a stone sword to each of the men around me, i quickly sorted my equipment to feature easy access to food and my diamond sword (I had no bucket of lava or bow /w 100ish arrows that i usually carry as standard pvp fighting set), i attempted to communicate with them in local chat, saying i came with peace, their leader responded with something stereotypical spanish and some of the surrounding men yelled "Ariba!"
The leader must've called a charge, as they suddently rushed at me from all sides, i quickly started running for the wooden construction they were building before my arrival, killing 2 or 3 while running, luckily most of them had no armor, bows or buckets, only stone swords, however i knew i'd get overrun if i didn't escape, i went out on a 1-block thin bridge over the water, as they closed in on me, standing in line to get their turn, 5 of them jumped into the water, awating me like sharks waiting for a man walking the plank, it wouldn't be long before the one closest to me gathered courage to charge, and though his weak sword merely dented my armor, it was enough to push me into the water.
I swam backwards, towards the coast i came from, fighting off the men in the water, the rest of them quickly followed, two of my skype buddies where nearing my location, as i ran to the roof of my wooden house, they joined me close by.
It wouldn't be long before the mexicans came out of the water, i stood on top of my house; waiting for them to climb up, however they had other ideas, they surrounded my house and started chopping up the wood, it was like watching teremites eat a table in disney cartoons, i had to jump and flee, my friends joined me, as we all retreated up hill, killing some in the process i was sure of our victory when their leader carrying an iron sword and armor (Apparently he had ordered him getting an iron chest plate instead of some iron tools for his mates) came running infront of me, i stopped to fight him, and after a hit he ran off, however the time he bought was enough, as 7-8 mexicans had surrounded me, i swung my sword wildly, killing a few of them, but i was trapped in a corner, and my dps output was too low, they murdered me and took all my iron tools and broken iron armor as declaration to their victory, my two friends managed to escape.
This was the beginning to a long war with the mexicans, lasting many weeks, i found out later that they were actually french, a really nice bunch, roleplaying stereotype mexicans.

We actually tried dynamite but I think there was a mod disabling it which is understandable because it can be rather cheap
