Music Taste Phases

OK, so I am guessing there are many other people like me. We go through different phases with different tastes in music. Some would say this comes with the times, like 90s was for grunge music or something, but I say it is different for each person what music is good for them at the time.

For me I go through 5-6 phases of music, usually repeating every 5-6 months. My pattern is something like Generic Radio-Metal > Hard metal > Pop or Rap & Parodies > Classic Rock > Hard Rock > Radio metal.

Generic Radio-Metal
This is around the time I really start listening to the radio often. I turn on the local rock/metal/whatever station, and listen for songs I like. Most of the songs they play aren't really metal or rock, but are recent from a band their broadcasting company sponsors or something else popular. Some examples of Generic Radio-Metal:

Theory of a Dead Man
The Reason
Five Finger Death Punch
Linkin Park ( :X )

Hard Metal
I get tired of the Generic sound of radio metal, so I move on to heavier metal off CDs. I go out and buy CDs from bands I have heard before in video games or otherwise. I do listen to a lot of things that people don't consider real metal like Disturbed, but different tastes. Here are a few examples of Hard Metal:

Trivium
Chimera
Nonpoint
As I Lay Dying

Pop / Rap & Parodies
After a while I get tired of the metal, and start listening to some of the things my parents/brother listens too. Most of the pop I listen to is on the radio, and most of the Rap is in video game videos on youtube. I also listen to a lot of parodies of pop songs (usually for the video game I am currently obsessed with.) Examples:

Yolanda Be Cool
Suspense304 Music
Lol9Songs
Jay-Z (Warning, Runescape Video)

Classic Rock (I am somewhere around here currently)
Eventually, I get annoyed with all the modern music, so I go back to my stockpile of classic music. Not all rock, but most of it can be grouped like that. Most of this music was made between the 60s and the 80s, and most of the bands aren't really around any more, but their music lives on. Some of the groups: (Some may argue that this is not classic rock, but I don't really care. If it is older than the 1980s, I am probably going to classify it as classic rock.

The Beatles
Pink Floyd
The Who
Rush

Hard Rock
Classic Rock eventually moves towards harder rock, moving closer to metal.. Around now is when I start listening to the radio a bit more, but I pay more attention to the non-generic songs like 80s and 90s Hard rock. This phase sometimes blends in with the Radio-metal phase, but I guess it is distinguishable enough. Some songs:

Van Halen
Motley Crue
Ozzy Osbourne
KISS

So, what phases of music do other TLers go through? Also, opinions on mine?

Survival is winning, everything else is bullshit.

once you have a huge collection of all kinds of music after going through like 40 of these phases you just end up listening to anything randomly
Two in harmony surpasses one in perfection.

I have always been listening to soul, RnB, underground hiphop/rap, classic rap. I don't really go through genre phases, but mainly what artist I favor more ATM.

Also on a side note some of the bands you consider "generic radio metal" would be more consider Altenative/Hard rock IMO.

Not really phases, mostly depends on the day. But its:

Pop (like whats on your little sisters ipod) -> Metalcore (or whatever, like As I Lay Dying or Chimera) -> Kpop (Bubble pop!) -> Pansy Metal (Dead by April, no its not an actual genre probably)

My phases pretty much went like:
1. Random video game music, movie music, current pop tunes, and Weird Al. (Middle School).
2. TONS of classical music, starting with Tchaikovsky and branching out. (High School).
3. Classical music with some Kpop and an increasing interest in 80s pop music (College to present).

10: Baroque --> 13: New Age --> 15: Rap/Rock --> 18: Folk/Hippy --> 21: Techno/Dance --> 22: Heavy Fucking Metal --> 23: Techno/Dance --> 24: Bjork

I think I'm going to stick with Bjork for a while.

For me?

Classic Rock (Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Rush, The Doors, Queen, etc.) -->

Nirvana -->

Heavy Metal (Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Iron Maiden) -->

Thrash (Metallica, Megadeath, Kreator, Slayer) -->

Melodic Death Metal (Really short phase, basically Kalmah :p) -->

Progressive Metal(&Metalcore)/Djent (Protest The Hero, Cynic, After the Burial, The Human
Abstract, Meshuggah, The Arusha Accord, Gojira, Giant Squid) -->

Mellower Music (Pearl Jam, The White Stripes, The Strokes) -->

Progressive Metal (Between the Buried and Me, Protest the Hero, Baroness, Sikth) -->

Post-Rock/Post-Metal (Callisto, Explosions in the Sky, God is an Astronaut, The Ocean, Russian Circles) -->

Math-Rock/Whatever-The-Hell-I-Want (Battles, Between the Buried and Me, Glorie, Maps & Atlases, Sleeping People, Tera Melos, This Town Needs Guns, Thomas Giles).

The weird thing about me, though, is that when I end a phase, I still mostly listen to that music still. The phases for me, are mostly for discovery of new music to listen to, rather than a distinct change in tastes. If you read through the list, there's a rather clear evolution in what I've listened to, that I've never really noticed, before.

Im really never finished with a genre, but its more cyclic like the op. Goes between Hip Hop > Various kinds of rock > Hard Rock/metal > Psy-trance/ambient > other electronic music > classical > other stuff, in no particular order.
