As all of us know, many keyboards have the 2 flaps in the back underneath the keyboard to have an option to raise it or not. Although there are quite a few articles that tell how raised keyboards cause more wrist strain (RSI) I was wondering what is better off for gaming. Yes, I know it depends for comfort as well obviously, but, if a raised keyboard being used over long hours of gaming could cause any substantial damage or whatnot.

So if you want to, fill out the poll and reply saying if you do raise yours or not, and if so, if it gives you any pain.

Poll: Flat vs Raised

Raised (84)

52%

Flat (78)

48%

162 total votes

Your vote: Flat vs Raised

(Vote): Flat
(Vote): Raised

Always raised! I spent 10 minutes once looking for a small piece of plastic that snapped off my keyboard clip so I could glue it back on. Flat just doesn't feel right.

Yeah ive been trying mine flat but i dont really care for it.

I also tend to lean back in my chair so the raised helps that way as well.

I'm way too used to flat because I used to play the piano a lot when I was little. Then I moved onto a raised keyboard when I first got on a computer an immediately looked for a way to make it flat ~_~

Raised just feels awkward at times.

I feel like a lot of it depends on how you sit in a chair as well.

For me I tend to lean back so raised helps a bit. But if you sit straight up, i feel flat would be beneficial.

Some piano's even have 'lowered' keyboards; the far end is lower than the near end. I never got raised keyboards. Flat it is for me!

Used to do raised, switched to flat after my ring finger felt fatigued from pressing 'a' one too many times.

Depends on the keyboard.

My Filco is in a permanent raised state, but without little legs. The keyboard just naturally has a triangular shape that gives it the raised profile while still having the whole keyboard bottom flat on the desk.

My desk has a glass surface so I use raised because my keyboard moves around too much without the legs.

Mine's always raised. When the thing at the back is broken ( at a cafe or something ) I HAVE to go get another one. i don't know why but I can't type on flat :D

Flat for life. My Leopold (similar to Filco) has a slight raise even without the flaps, but you don't notice it much
edit: I raise it if I'm writing a paper or something, feels slightly better for typing but kinda awkward when playing games.

Raised. I can't stand it when I go to the library or something and the keyboard flap things are broken. Idk, it just feels so weird. Have to switch computers haha

Raised is the way to go because it strains your wrist less. It allows you to keep your wrist on the desk and still not bend it too too much to reach the keys you need to.

Raised, I don't like the high raised ones, or the flat, a keyboard with a slight raise is best for me.

At home it's flat, but that's because my keyboard is quite big, so it's almost like it was raised...

At work it's raised, and it's a quite smaller keyboard...

Raised, when I first got my (rather expensive) keyboard I was like "WTF this is SHIT I have to stand while playing OMGFAGAIWDAWIJDIO" then after thrashing my entire room and shooting up some dope drinking a glass of coke I realized there were feet.

A raised keyboard feels comfortable to me. I guess it's because my wrists aren't dangling over an edge or something like that.

I don't mind either flat or raised, but when i lay my keyboard flat, the keys point away from me and it feels awkward to type, so I do raised

Raised keyboards are just really uncomfortable for me. Maybe it's because I've just gotten used to using flat keyboards since computer class in middle school where they said raised keyboards were bad for you.

Anyone else here have a Saitek Cyborg? I have this shit raised to the max. I have two flaps on each side in back, and one flap each side UP FRONT, bitches. I can slide a legal pad under my keyboard, and it feels great like this. I also have a towel wrist-rest, too. But RAISED ALL THE WAY.

For me it depends on the keyboard. I mostly use flat since I have a G15 at home, and it's more comfortable for me when it's not raised.

Definitely raised, my friend's keyboard lost the little plastic flaps that raise it so every time I gamed at his house I had to use a lighter or something to raise it properly lol.

Flat for sure. It's more stable, and as noted allows you to maintain a more healthy posture to reduce risk of RSI.

flat because when I slam down on my keyboard, the flaps break. So I take that into account and just don't put them up

(Sorry in advance if I wasn't supposed to bump this thread, didnt want to start another due to seeing one was already up)

In the Raised vs Flat debate, which one is better on your hands? I heard when played raised, your wrists are more upward, which can lead to a higher chance of carpel tunnel. Is this true? Would that mean playing on a flat surface is better for your wrists?
