Hello my dear, dear, TL friends!

I come to you all requesting some aid! Some of you may know me as a featured streamer, player on compLexity Gaming, having awesome hair, or helping out in the "Simple Questions, Simple Answers" thread with my shiny blue post. Some of you may not know who I am (I don't blame you, I wouldn't watch me play either. Just listen to my rad music. It's good. I promise.)

Anyway, as some of you may know (my loyal stream watchers!), I recently graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of New Hampshire, and am currently going for my Masters in Elementary Education so I can be a teacher, as my interest lies primarily in working with children

However, it has become a goal/dream of mine to teach English overseas, preferably in Eastern Europe, but would go for any of Europe if it's possible. To those that will mention Asia as a possible choice of business, I have already been in contact with 1 person in China, 1 in South Korea, and 1 in Thailand all with job opportunities, but honestly have no desire to go to an Asiatic country to teach English.

Therefore, I was wondering if anyone, Europeans or Americans that have had some foreign experience regarding teaching/volunteering/whatever, could please drop some knowledge on this poor fool regarding how to go about finding a job in Europe.

I will have my Masters in Education, so I won't need a TeFL certificate or whatever it is called, and as of May of 2012 will be eligible for a teaching position for the following school year.

If ANYONE could please give me some advice/suggestions/whatever that could be incredibly helpful and I'd be totally thankful!

Love,
Ryan "coL.Ryan" Rushia

My friend is looking into it at the moment as her sister is in Korea doing the teaching english thing and has been for a fair few years now. I'm not sure personally how to go about it exactly, but I'm sure Spain would be a good place for it.

My bro went to Korea two years in a row here, talking to teachers at the schools each time, and the first time it was with a decent school.

And the 2nd time he followed his recruiters advice and is now stuck at a terrible school for 9 months with a bad principal.

That place is garbage, don't bother. Absolutely bottom of the barrel. Also totally Asia focused.

If you have a masters in education then you can teach at an international school anywhere in the world. You are not pigeon-holed into being an ESL teacher like those with BA in something else. If you want to be an ESL teacher, great, but the opportunities and pay are much better at international schools.

Your best bet is to find a teaching job fair, invest the money to go, and see all your options in one place. If you have a good masters then you could walk out of there with work.

For reference, I have a masters in TESOL and have worked in Japan for 6+ years. My best friend has his BA in education and works as a PE teacher at an international school in Korea. His wage crushes mine. He is moving on the the middle east shortly.

How much higher can you get than masters of English at a US University? I don't think you should ask the question here, there are better forums (collegeconfidential is very education oriented), but I was always under the assumption that good English teachers were more valuable abroad than doctors are here.

Dave's ESL Cafe is a haven for crooks and shysters. If you're getting your masters in education you're quite above the kind of people that need to rely on that site for jobs.

You love my girly drinks the most Ryan ;D.
Best of luck on your teaching journey, I think it's very admirable.

So I spoke with my girlfriend, she will be following a similar path.

Currently we are mainly looking at South Korea, I mean it would be awesome for both of us. Otherwise, two of her friends got something through the university itself. Some other guy had some friend connections.

Basically I think you should ask around you school and see what internship options they offer abroad, I don't know how strong that idea is in the US, but here in Canada we have quite some easy time and options to do so.

Most universities have links and connections with other locations in the world.

Good luck and make sure you report back here when you have some news
