Secondly, the games listed here aren't necessarily bad, or unpopular...but I had never heard of a lot of the games on my list, and wouldn't have if I hadn't discovered the music. Don't take my thoughts and turn them into me saying such and such game is terrible.
I've gotten myself hooked on listening to all sorts of video game music, from old stuff to new stuff...thanks to a channel I found on Youtube ages ago (http://www.youtube.com/user/garudoh#p/c/3E245DF445E37F50) there's a TON of games there...he's got about 600 videos of games.
So usually what I'll do is start up a playlist, turn on shuffle, and listen away. I've found some really interesting and fun games that I had never heard of before, and the sound tracks are great! What are your favorite "hidden gems" from games? I'll post a few of mine below.. No particular order.
1 - The Ooze, Sega Genesis
Basically you're a doctor for a company, you find out they are going to release a plague on mankind, then sell the only known vaccine and become rich. The other doctors find you snooping, and they dip you in toxic waste...instead of killing you, you become the ooze. It's a puzzle kind of game, you have to find a cure for yourself and eat your former colleagues.
2 - Full Throttle, PC.
I have a feeling that more people will know of this one, but I was more into NES/SNES back then, as I didn't have a PC. This game's fucking awesome, though, talk about total badass. TL;DR of the story is that you're the badass leader of a biker gang, and the world is converting over to hovercrafts, the last manufacturer of motorcycles in the world gets murdered and your gang gets framed, and so on and so forth. Save your gang, save your motorcycles.
3 - LifeForce, NES.
This game was not unknown to me, HOWEVER I have yet to find someone else who has heard of this game. Save me TL!! Me and my dad used to play 2p on this all the time, it was his favorite NES game we had! Plus the soundtrack fuck freaking awesome. I have it on my Ipod. >>
4 - Solstice, NES.
Never heard of the game until I saw it on his channel...this game has amazing music though, and looks hard as hell, hahaha. The part at 4:02 is like an eargasm. For me, anyways. I don't know the story or anything behind the game...most NES games didn't really have one. Stories? Who wanted that crap back then. :p
5 - Splatterhouse, TG-16 (bonus if you know this thing <3)
Punching shit in a haunted house was never so much fun. This game is actually pretty good. If you're into old school games like I am, anyways. Predecessor to Splatterhouse 2+3 on the Genesis, if you are familiar. I don't think anyone has ever heard of this game because of the console it came on (lol NEC console) but the music in here is awesome. I love at the very beginning, splattering ghoulies against the wall with a giant stick. Yay Jason.
I'm curious to know if many people know of these 5...I'm sure between the tons of people on TL, that all five are known, but I can never seem to find anyone who is into playing really old, crappy or unpopular games! As an aside, I love watching really cheesy/shitty horror films, too...I have every season of MST3K, and the movies that they feature on that show are the kind of movies I love to watch, haha. Similar to video games!
So what are your guys old favorites? Ever have trouble finding people that have heard of the games? Hopefully we can talk about some older relatively unknown games together! :D
Also does anyone know of a way to play these old games multiplayer over the internet? There's gotta be a site somewhere that will let you pick a game and co-op it...maybe hamachi or certain emulators? I wanted to play Battletoads Co-op with Torte but I can't find something to do that.
2 times in a row, he's been mentioned in my blogs. What a jerk. Happy birthday Torte, btw <3
