So I have been facing this dilemma, I want to practice SC2 so that when I go to play at MLG Anaheim I can win the first round which is my only goal right now. I really don't play as much as I would like since I work a full time job 6 days a week.
I am a masters player and I was thinking that if I could grind out 100 games a week it would prepare me to be at a level where I could win my first round. I have accounted for the chance that I face some pro and just get ROFL stomped then I have to win 2 rounds in the losers bracket. So do you guys think it best for me to grind out as many games as possible? or to search out practice partners for each race and just work on my match ups or just a little but of both.
Have to keep in mind that my time schedule is a bit demanding and I maybe get 2 hours to play a night and 4-5 on weekends if I am lucky and start getting 5-6 hours of a sleep a night.
Personally I learn quite a bit from coping pro builds though I never really refine them. 50% of my ladder games I am trying builds I have never done before just to get a feel for them. Though if I lose I will tend to just not explore that build anymore. Which is why I was leaning toward practice partners myself. I know a healthy balance of the two would probably be the best. I have a very hard time finding reliable practice partners around my skill level.
Any other suggestions???

i'm of the opinion that ladder games will help your mechanics and reactions, and practicing with a partner will help your strategy.
you should use a mix of both, leaning towards practice partners if you want to refine builds ^_^

Get some practice partners, preferably a little above your level of play. practice with them in the week. Grind ladder on weekends.

Prepare a build per positions in each map per race. Think through you strategies. It seems like that's the only advantage you will have over your competitions.
Image training is also highly recommended. Have a strong theme in your play. Are you gonna score small points in the first 7 minute and exchange scores till the end? Are you gonna have a step-by-step damage dealers hoping the opponent dies before it goes beyond your preparation? Are you gonna have a single strong thrust? There are many ways you can go about it.The best part is, these are something you can do during breaks at work!
Best wishes.

My problem with this is actually finding the partners. I haven't been able to find anyone to play with. I have signed up on the Practice partner thread. Though most people I have talked with we usually only play one game, then part ways for the most part.

Split it up. You don't know who your going to have to face what style they are going to do. But they will have been playing on the ladder. Also you need to hone specific skills that you want to prepare.

Practice. You can play as many games you want, but with partners you can hone in on your problems and rectify them before the big day :3

What race do you play?
I'm a 1400 Terran who is also hoping to win my first match @ MLG Anaheim :D
I'm down to practice, depending on your race.

Play Protoss, I am going to be pretty much devoid of life tell after Anaheim since I really want to attempt to do well. I can only play nights like 7-8pm or later. I would love to practice plus we could meet up at Anaheim and I will cheer for ya ;D

yeah just add me. I'm usually on around the same time as well, however probably a bit later like 9pm- midnight.

mix both for sure. It's nice to have some stuff planned out, but you will get stale playing the same dude using the same builds. Ladder randomness will do you good. Plus, you'd have to imagine that's more similar to the playstyle you'll face at mlg

I would prepare a best builds for a best of 3 for each potential match up and practice them, so have 2-3 builds for each match up that you can use depending on the map etc.
Good luck! Remember to have fun as well.
