Hello everyone. I assume you have already read some similar posts, but I have been struggling for quite some time now to play in a satisfying way (Where I feel like I'm improving a bit even if it's just very slowly). I blame this due to me not being able to stick to one race. It's not that I play random, it's more that I seem to switch my race after every 3-4 games. I'm currently in Mid Gold and I don't actually mind loosing games, but after watching my replays of some losses the only conclusions I come up with are: "I am terrible and my opponent is not and I'm doing something totally wrong with the race I'm playing." After these games it's usually the point where I switch to another race. I feel rather confident on my macro (at least I seem be able to keep my Resource count low and keep on producing units for some time). I'm actually watching a lot of Pro replays but that doesn't seem to help me that much. Here are my thoughts on every race:
Protoss: It's the race I played the least out of all the 3. I'm quite a fan of the Warpgate units and the ability to warp them in wherever I want to. The only matchup I feel halfway confident is versus Zerg. Against Terran I usually loose versus the famous MM(M) ball (funnily if I try that myself as Terran it never works). I blame this due to me playing way too much with Warpgate units and switching too late to other tech. I probably never won a match against another Protoss since my micro is close to being not existent. Whenever I tried to micro I felt like I'm making things worse.
Zerg: It's the race I played the second most. What I like about them is the ability to produce a ton of units and that those units can be produced at a single building (That allows me to circumvent some of my mistakes if I didn't pay enough attention to unit production). Managing drones seems to be really tough (Probably the main reason why it's the hardest race to start with). My ZvZ is usually Cheesing on my end as my micro is rather terrible like I pointed out. ZvP is my hardest matchup, because I never score a win when my opponent goes Colossus. ZvT also seems to be a Deal breaker for me, because I'm a bit clueless what to do when my opponent turtles up with Siege tanks. When I go aggressive I just loose my units. When I try to expand he comes out of his base and kills me. Once he got his second base turtled up I have usually lost. The only idea I come up with in these situations is the Nydus Worm and that only seems to work 10% of the time. I also noticed that I rarely ever tech to Hive.
Terran: Probably the race I played the most. What I like about Terrans is the strength of their siege tanks, if I ever get them in great numbers I feel like my base is really hard to break. Can't really say that I have a matchup I feel confident here. My TvT suffers from me not managing the balance of vikings and ground units right (I usually forget the Vikings until it is too late). My TvZ suffers from my lack of micro (I'll only say Marine + Baneling). The few times I faced Protoss went average, I usually won when he stayed Warpgate units but lost when he teched up.
Now I need the help of the TL community. Please help me pick the "right" Race I will try to stick to. I included Random in the Poll option since I have heard of some people that seem to have an easier way of finding their race when they play random for some time, but I feel like I would end up cheesing too much. I will check the Poll results again next week and then pick the race that got the most Votes. I will then "report" back to you on how it goes for me with that race.

Tell us more about your play style, not what you think of the races =/ Are you an aggressive type of player? Like long macro games? Do you go FE often? How's your scouting? Do you feel comfortable with playing mostly blind? Can you predict/guess/gauge the unit composition you'll face from your opponent? Do you throw units in blindly? Do you position them? Do you flank/surround a lot? How comfortable are you in holding off cheese? How good are you at cheesing? All in a lot?
If you're not sure yourself, just play random until you do decide for yourself. TL can't really help you.

I usually prefer mid long games. I can play both aggressive and defensive although I have more success with a large timing push. I can't really say a lot about long macro games, since that never really happens in gold league. I fast expand as a Zerg occasionally. My scouting suffers from my bad micro, so the most I do is putting up some units on Xel'Naga Watch- towers or in front of their base. I probably play blind too often, I guess I don't mind it that much but I'm aware that it's pretty dumb to do so. I can guess rather good what my opponent is gonna throw at me, especially after he scouted me. I don't really do any positioning or flanking, due to lack of good micro. I really need some practice in micro, although I'm a bit clueless on how to do it. Before i start doing that though I really need a race I can concentrate on. I'm aware that TL can't do wonders and magically pick the perfect race for me, all I'm asking for is second opinion so I thought I would post some infos to give everyone at least an impression of what I'm good/bad at.

stick to random, semms the best choice you can do. im in the same situation (but in bronze) and it felt strange when i try to stick to 1 race. its still fun, but it feels like sth is missing because i never see the 2 race i dumped.
play random until you feel the need to focus more on 1 race to increase your skill with it. another reason would be, that you have a little advantage when ypou play against nonrandom palyer. they will have to play a different opening because tehy dont know which race you will be in that game . the last reason with almost 0 value, you get all 3 races-achievements when play random ^^

Looks like you suffer difficulty in micro. All races require possess a match-up where micro is essential. I'd go for terran, then use mech against zerg, as the marine vs. baneling micro won't be needed. You're going to need to watch some replays to get this type of play down though.
You stated that you like siege tanks because they make your base hard to break. You probably shouldn't be camping your base with tanks. Get out there and control the map.
Play terran. It's already your most familiar race.

Learn the basics. Think you should start with terran. practice the macro and know some build orders by heart then that should be enough for now. Then you can always change later on. Try the "marine split challenge" custom map to practice your micro and work on the timings.
EDIT: I'm so biased. There's no real answer to that question. Just pick one so that you can improve your skills faster with that race.

Just play random until you find a race you really like.

I wouldn't actually say that I'm camping a lot. I'm usually the first one to attack but not with too much success. I was actually more trying to point out that I feel really safe against Zerg when I have some Siege tanks up in my base

Never heard of this custom map, but I'm gonna try it out later this evening. Thanks for the tip.

Pick one, play it exclusively for a week or two, if you don't like it you can switch earlier, but don't switch just because you are losing (that just means you need to play it more). Then go to the next one.
That will get you the information to decide.
Doing something like that I eliminated Terran and now I play Protoss and Zerg but I do it in blocks like it's a Protoss day or Protoss week, or it's a Zerg session and if I can't decide which one it will be that day or something I flip a coin. I've ended up favoring Protoss more though so it's like a main and zerg like an off race now (one of those Protoss weeks turned into a protoss month or two)

I'm not really sure about that, since I'm effectively playing random since the release of the game (although I'm actually selecting the race) and I haven't really found one that way that really suits me. I will do it though if the poll results say so.

If you're serious about improving just pick the race you'd feel you can stick with for the long haul. Whether you find it the most interesting, or have the most depth, or just have the most fun with.
If you don't want to be in Gold league anymore picking a race would probably be best, but if you enjoy them all just play random. Playing random is an achievement in of itself as long as you don't cheese every game
Edit: I voted Random before really reading (heh) but that's my vote and what I do myself.

I'm in the same boat. HYDRAAAAA LISKUUUUU!

Pick protoss. We are obviously the best. Coolest race out there. We are built to destroy zerg and any terran that gets in our way. or tried to take our artifacts. Lasers man. Get with the lasers.

Wasn't it the Zerg that were created to wipe out anything that gets in their way?
Also I recommend Terran, they are just generally the most straight-forward race to really get the meat of your learning of the game done with. But there is nothing wrong with random! It is just better to decide on random AFTER tons of time spent just generally playing the game, not starting with random and then picking a race from there.

Anyone got an idea of how to effectively get better micro? I know it's a question of (a lot of) time, but I have been playing since the release and I don't think I have gotten better at all so I'm apparently doing something wrong.

Wow those tips are amazing. I tried it out a bit, and even though it was still a bit sloppy I beat 2 Platinum players in the last games. Thanks a lot.

From those two things I would say Terran is going to be what you will be most comfortable with. There is a ton of great timing pushes that terran can do in all matchups. In a lot of ways, terran relies on a solid early timing to inflict a lot of damage. That combined with Terran's ability to scan makes me think you might be most comfortable with terran. Thats not a very in depth analysis, just my first impression.
