Hello everyone.

After I made my first blog-post yesterday and got some positive I decide to make another one today!
If you haven't read it, I am William, play Protoss in the Silver league and I am sixteen years old

In my quest to find fun and friendship in StarCraft I bumped into something troublesome. While playing ladder I always 4gate because of my lack of knowledge and training in other builds. My question follows, should I have a standard build against every race or should I practice one build really much so I utilize it more effective. I know there are a lot of good builds out there but frankly I am quite scared to try them because I think it will mess up my 4gate(Not that my 4gate is that great). A lot of people say training and refining is the key to improving the game but sadly I can only play about three days per week and I want to have fun playing those days. I do not want to play game after game against the infamous ''Player 2''. Would the solution be getting some good practice buddy's, should I just dump that idea and play ladder and hope I improve over time (I have only been playing SC for about three weeks afterall) or perhaps a combination of those?

Another thing I would like to know is what kind of music you listen while playing starcraft. I am looking to make a playlist for my laddering in the hope I will be less nervous before and while playing a game (I call those my ''Chobo Chills'' just FYI )

Thanks a lot for reading and please excuse me for any spelling and/or grammar mistakes.

P.S. If you want to add me on Battle.net my name is Dessy and my character code is 801, but please leave a message on TL.net to avoid confusion.

I think you should continue 4gating until you can do it really well and you feel it is too easy. Imo you shouldn't start with standard fast expansion builds and stuff like that, it's better to start simple when learning new stuff, same with sc2.

Then, once he stops fourgating he is gonna fall down all the ranks again and play against the same people as now. Fourgating is wasted time because it does not teach you anything.

As a beginner you should get yourself one safe build for every matchup and just go with it. You will become a better player eventually.
For protoss I recomend
2gate Robo Expand against terran
3gate Sentry expand againstzerg
4 gate in PvP (at least until there is some kind of standard in this matchup, it is kinda messed up after the patch.)

I think you should just do whatever you feel like doing.

Spend some time away from the game just thinking about it strategically, and come up with a strategy. Then figure out how to execute it. When you lose, figure out why you lost and modify your strategy, or come up with a new one.

The game is about having fun. Don't worry about not executing your build perfectly, because that's basically never gonna happen. If you want to practice some games before trying out your builds on the ladder, you can go to the chatroom "TL" or "Gametime" (and others I'm forgetting I'm sure) to find a practice partner.

Not really, as long as he stops when it becomes too easy, he will learn from it. A lot of low level players can't keep their money down while being aggressive even on one base, so why recommend FE builds? It's better to learn to macro properly on one base before trying it on two, or else it will be too hard.

Besides, for a new player 4gating is fun because you don't have to focus on a lot of stuff. You focus on your attack, your macro and your micro. Having to focus on a gameplan, building probes off two bases, building production facilities, building units, teching, scouting, timings etc can be overwhelming.

At least this is what I have experienced when teaching my friends who are new to the game.
