so i've been playing bw a little more lately, and I realize i suck. I've been facing pretty decent koreans players on u.s. west and have been getting crushed by the things i shouldn't get crushed by.

I generally play toss but have been fiddling with terran, i like tvt and tvz, but tvp i really want to go bio in, and as many of you know, its a bad build against protoss.

Though here is the funny thing , I know what to do. I know how everything works, after all, i spend hours a day watching pro sc1, and watching replays from top level players. So my game sense is better than my auctal playing of the game. which fustrates me a lot. maybe i should take the motto in mind "those who can't do, teach," maybe i should just teach others, since i suck so much at playing the game. lol jk

But in other things, Today i got promoted to full rpelay admin at ICCup, so I'm pretty stoked about that, The ICCup team right now is awesome and I really look foward to working with them all. I hope as well I can help anybody in any way possible in my position. If you want to see certain players replays, let me know.

I am also trying to get into contact with some of the korean clans, and seeing if i can't get a small sample of their clan replays. Many clans have inhouse tourneys, so maybe a few of those would be cool. I am working on this for now.

As well I am working on a few other things that could end up being big news for bw fans. Won't talk much about it now, but If all goes well. we will have a lot of fun.

Don't worry.

I've sucked for the last ten years of my BW career. It's fine.

Don't like TvP? Deepsix every game.

Although I have no idea what type of maps are being played if it's remotely viable anymore.

PRACTICE PRACTICE PRAC

all u gotta do.
Just learn the various forms of ur build down to the bone and with good game sense (assuming u can micro and multi ok) u'll be decent.
Why would I play sctoo when I can play BW?

The problem with most people getting into bw is their mechanics are horrible and they miss underestimate the required skillsets. You should try more 2v2 3v3 @USwest/east (Like 200games) and then come back to 1s.
I don't need luck, luck is for noobs, good luck to you though

The last thing in the world I would recommend is to do more 2v2 and 3v3s.

The first thing I would recommend is to try and learn some standard builds for each matchup (after, you know, choosing a race) (and by standard, I don't mean bio in tvp), practicing the hell out of getting the build order as down as you want, practicing your mechanics and trying to get your apm (ESPECIALLY if you are playing terran.) You really kind of just need to grind through the losses and just work on improving yourself (identifying mistakes and areas you can improve upon.)

I have played TONS of games against a computer just practicing and working on my multitasking/apm (granted, this was more due to not having a practice partner than anything...)

Or, take day9's advice. Pick a matchup, a map, and a build order, and just keep on repeating and practicing it over and over and over until its perfect.

Watching brood war vods isn't really that useful if you suck at the game. Game sense largely develops from your own play and watching the reps. You just won't get the same depth of understanding through spectating. "I know how everything works" - even the best players admit they don't, you're clueless in comparison.

It's like watching Federer vs Nadal then going on to your local court and thinking you understand the game when you can't even do the fundamentals. You learn by doing. The saying "those who can't do, teach" applies to those becoming too old to physically compete in their chosen sport and thus go into coaching/commentary, not to noobs who can't 'do' in the first place.

Congrats on the admin job regardless, glad to hear ICCUP is still alive outside of Korea.

Actually, I would recommend this too. Watching day9's early dailies are a great way to pick up ideas, techniques, build orders, and, most importantly, the proper mindset / decision making behavior that is necessary to compete in BW. It will be a great way to make your first step to improvement.

The reason I wouldn't really recommend 2v2's/etc are that the mindset and playstyles of 2v2's are completely different from that of 1v1's, and it can get you in some bad habits if you aren't approaching it correctly. It can be useful for picking up the super super super basics of the game (like, how to hotkey, uh...building some units....that's about it really) and for perhaps inspiring you to play (and it can be a great break from 1v1's if you are burning out). However, you won't truly improve unless you go through the grind like everyone else does .

Yeah, i get my understanding is not that of great players. Basically i'm saying. I know what i'm supposed to do, its just the matter of auctally doing it, thats the problem.

and the teaching quote was a joke. i'll add the lol in now, since it seems like people didn't take it as a joke.

That's because every Protoss build is invulnerable to everything lol.

J/k, but the only time I've bee cheesed per say is when I picked Protoss for 1 game and Terran SCV Marine all in'd me. Was the most laughably easy thing to hold off in existence lol. It's probably because lol D rank people don't know how to cheese, or else they would be at least D+ lol.

EDIT: Just realized I ended every single one of my sentence with "lol". Wow I'm such a joke lol.

US West? play some iccup, or even practice mechanics against computers in single player. first try 1v1, then 1v2, and eventually 1v3.

if you have poor mechanics, switch to protoss.:p

no but seriously speaking,I am improving on my mechanics since I started to play Protoss in BW.

also when will we get some iloveoov reps, because you can build a lot from his builds than you can from the well refined builds of Flash.

Well, I suppose (Though I didn't make it clear) what i'm really implying is not to get stuck in the rut of only playing team games, and expecting it to be a complete substitute for 1v1's.

Also, different styles of practice works for different people. I, for one, probably would have never improved too much if I had played 200~ games of 2v2, particularly because I don't have the type of time to play enough games to really approach the amount of playing time for 200 games, then to make a transition to 1v1's. It might work for someone else, but it never did much for me. So take from it what you want, it's just a style of practice I (personally) wouldn't do. Though, undoubtedly, it's more fun than losing your first 50 games of 1v1 D:

Edit: TLDR - overall, i would just recommend to attempt to not pick up bad habits, as once they are absorbed, they can be difficult to change.
