I'm surprised at how many people in the lower ranks try to go for the easy win instead of playing the game outright. Not that I am against rushes or quick agression, but playing in the bronze league most people just don't know how to execute these things well enough to pull them off. Most of the times, it happens because a bronzie watched a GSL match where a pro player does something quirky, and so after watching it, the bronzie goes to play and tries to do this strategy, only ending up getting destroyed by me. What most players need to realize is that Starcraft 2 isn't always about winning a game as fast as you can. I've seen it happen too many times.
I play terran, and I end up playing against zerg, which means automatic wall off at the start of the game. I get ling rushed, but of course I have my wall and marines there to protect my base. Instead of seeing the futility of it, the zerg instead decides to jam all his units in my ramp while my marines shout emphatically "Free keeelz!" and make fillets for the next meal out of the zerglings. I think to myself "Well hopefully he learned his lesson." Sadly that is not the case and 30 seconds later another wave of zerglings shows up. They die as well, and at this point I have a big enough army to counter, so I do so and win the game.
Patience my children! Patience! Every unit matters in this game! If the zerg had taken time to build up his economy, he could have won. There are times I have totally demolished my opponents army, but realizing that my units are in red health, I retreat and wait for my medivacs to heal me. By then I have more units, more workers, more money and I know that the next big push I do will surely wreak havoc. I've seen good players take time to wait before venturing out and attacking. Sometimes I watch a pro and wonder why he is running his units away from a push coming at him. I look down at the mini map, and realize that he had more reinforcements on the way, and decided it was better to wait so that his whole army could attack at once. Had he decided to defend before waiting, he would have been fighting one whole army with two halves at seperate times.
So the moral is: the game doesn't have to be won immediately. Small smart decisions now can ultimately win the game later.
So what kinds of stories do you guys have of patience really helping you win a game? I'd like to hear!
p.s. I also wrote for examiner.com and if you could just click the link for me below, it would really help me out! I'm trying to bring Starcraft 2 to my community, and this would be a great way for you guys to help me in that, thanks! http://www.examiner.com/video-game-in-tucson/patience-and-ling-fillets

In the first placement match of season 2 (I was either very low gold or high silver i am not sure after the leagues got locked and im pretty sure i was on the verge of being demoted.) I random spawned zerg and I wanted to do some early all innish strategy soo badly to just win the placement match, but I stopped myself and told myself "self, you suck at the early aggression, just play this match stable and for the long term and try to win it with a well played long game. And then the enemy protoss like 10 gates and tries to build pylons in my main at the like 5 or 6 min mark or whatever. And I sniped the probe, expanded got 5 roaches and won the game 15 mins later. That whole entire day everyone was like all in cheesing every game. My friend was watching my match and then he was afraid to play his placement match because he's bronze and he fears cheese. He waited like a week before he did his placement. (which i don't understand, dont be afraid of anyone) In my next match the same exact thing happened, but this time I waited around and didnt kill him when I knew I could, and then he just kept doing timing pushes and I kept killing every single one I felt so bad I could tell that he really wanted to win, and he actually asked me if he could just have it. I didnt say anything and I just a-moved and killed him.... I felt so bad but dude.....earn your wins. It will pay off in the long run, (if there is a long run for you.)

If you are in bronze league it is very likely that you are playing against 12-13 year olds. It is more surprising that you expect to see some sort of thinking process or meaningful thought behind their play.
Weak players tend to go for early aggression because they realize they have no long term game plan / skills. Hence they try to ramp up the variance in their games by rushing and basically hope to suck out.

Great stories! I agree with you exalted. There is no long term game plan. Even the pros know when to pull back with early aggression. I've tried early aggression some games, and if I see it's not going to work out, then I pull back and continue with my plan. But even then, one should be macroing and building their army in case the first push doesn't work.
