This is just my blog for being depressed about learning to Brood War. I can barely beat the P computer with standard play as T(just siege expanding and then adding some factories, I'm not even good enough to control vulture harass while macroing) and I'm having a super hard time learning to split my workers effectively. I don't think it matters that much as long as I can approximately get a 2-2 split done, as far as I know, but it feels a little exasperating to know I can't even send workers to the right patches.
It's so tempting to blame my equipment. I'm using a little Logitech laptop mouse with my Asus 900HA eeePC netbook, but I think I'm just terrible at Brood War. So terrible I can barely click my guys and tell them to do stuff.
If you can't beat the P ai, then it isn't your equipment that is the problem. Just macro. Don't micro at all, learn a build and learn to do it and try to keep your minerals under 4-500 at all times if you can.
To be honest, I always found it pretty hard to beat the computer's dirty zealot rush thing with a siege expand. But I'm bad as well so maybe that did it. ^^
Well, I can beat the P AI, but it's basically only if I abuse the fact that I KNOW it's going to run all its shit into my tanks if i just make nothing but tanks. I can't make vultures and harass with them or anything like that.
The P computer just builds zealots right? Going any sort of standard TvP opening would have you microing your few vultures or tanks against like 12 zealots. Just try a 2 rax marine medic build
Actually what I reccomend is a 2 factory vulture opening and then use patrol micro to feel pro

I just wanna do my build, not forget depots, and move my guys around.
Go online, host a 1v1 game with you and a computer. Click start game, and during the 5 second countdown change the computer slot to "Open." The game will start without a computer, a thing will pop up after a second saying "The match ended in a draw." Just click continue and then you're good to go.
Well the P computer is pretty hard to beat if you're not prepared for 10 zealots, especially when you're expoing and going siege tanks. I still lose to it from time to time...
The way I split is just to select them individually... But worker split isn't that big of a deal. Macro > micro > split
Shift click was always the easiest way to split for me. Also I wouldn't worry too much about the computer they do ridiculous things haha. Host some games online and try to practice there, don't worry about losses that's the most important thing. It's a game, and no one is judging you. Play for you and you alone

Beating P computer as T is simple, you just have to wall-in (zealot tight at choke), get siege tanks (+ebay in case it goes DT) then survive the first wave, then push out and you win. If the computer goes FFE, it's even easier.
You can help train with me, I have the basics kind of down and just now was able to beat the computer you should add me on iCCup Troxior and talk to me on IRC like the things said here are good but you just need to go back to the extreme basics really.
As far as splitting goes try it on slower speeds to practice the muscle memory. Increase speed one by one till it's consistent and easy to do. Just turn on a stream or something and have windowed BW running. Do it a couple hundred times and you'll never need to practice it again.

Nah dude, splitting is pretty hard to be honest. Even C/B ranked players screw up their splits pretty often. Its a bunch of accurate clicking in a really quick time frame as shit is moving.
If you wanna play without computer you can either go Multiplayer LAN UDP and kick comp in countdown or you can turn on power overwhelming and then send your normal scout scv to go attack comps nexus. It wont bother you for the rest of the game.
If you ever want any practice/help/assistance/support feel free to PM here or add sGs.LucidDream on ICCup and message me. I am always interested in helping out.
Thanks for the practice offers! Next time I get on iccup I'll contact you guys and see what we can do ^^ I am kinda addicted to this worker split stuff though, I think I'm gonna be spending a lot of downtime at work practicing this map and trying to figure out why I can't even get out of the 0-19% range.
Keep up the practice and you'll eventually get as good as this guy:
I'm sure you realize that having trouble beating the AI means you have more important things to work on than worker splitting, but hey, I think we all understand getting obsessed with some little thing and trying to perfect it. In a game as complex and difficult as BW it can be a little overwhelming to look at the big picture, and improving some minor concrete skill never hurts.
