So, I was browsing the Team Liquid Life Tricks threads and on page 30 saw the following "life trick"

"If you are losing your hair, get Propecia for $2.50 a month instead of $189. Go to your doctor get him/her to prescribe you something called Proscar which is 5 mg of Finasteride (for prostate health) while Propecia is only 1. The good part of this is insurance covers proscar (because there is a medical reason for it) so instead of paying $189 a month you pay roughly $10 a prescription. Then cut it up into quarters. So its a 4 month supply for only $15."

I'm no medical student or anything, but does anyone know if there is any truth to this trick, or is just a dud?

Thanks to all in advance : )

Have you ever heard the story, about the Zergling and the Probe? The Probe didn't make it across the creep.

What is exactly an androgenic hairloss? Influenced by hormones?
They first ignore you. After they laugh at you. Next they will fight you. In the end you will win.

Theres a connection between testosterone and hair loss. There was an interesting case where a set of twins were compared. One was a sex offender so he was castrated, and was balding, however his twin brother was found to have a full set of hair. So the doctor/experimenter gave the sex offender twin testosterone and eventually a very full set of hair grew back. (This was a many years ago but I'm sure you can google the story)
Also, propecia has varying results depending on different people. The chances of it working optimally are actually very low however it'll work decently well for a small portion of the population, so if you use it and it works on you, consider yourself really likely.

Isn't it supposed to be the opposite ?
Hair loss is caused by higher levels of DHT, which is a reduction of testosterone.
No testosterone => No DHT => No hair loss

It's more complicated then that, it also depends on how much enzyme you have that converts testosterone to DHT

Anyways here's a simple guide from me:

1. You probably don't have MPB(Male pattern baldness caused by high levels of DHT, which can be treated with propecia), get a quick check at your doctor to confirm whether you have it or not.
2. Your receding hairline is probably genetic and there's absolutely nothing you can do about it(90% of cases)
3.(If 1 or 2 is ruled out) Your hairloss is caused by heavy metal poisoning(very very rare) or other dangerous diseases.
