I have just wanted to ask one single question, Has BrodWar outlived it's lifespan? Now for anyone who is curious, I am not talking about shutting down the servers, I mean has it been used too long as the Starcraft pro-game from the series? Now I understand there are only 2, and SC2 is very new, but many other companies (I.E. MLG) have switched from Halo 3 to Reach, and from Modern Warfare 2 to Black Ops. I was also thinking, have people become used to when Blizzard kept pushing the release date of SC2 back, they just turned to BroodWar? No offense, but after 10+ years of 1 game, I might be bored, but since I'm fairly new I enjoy both BroodWar and SC2. I just want to know when people in Korea will be done with BroodWar and move on to SC2 and why they haven't already. I do understand it's hard to change games, since they are so different, but they will have to make the change eventually, I just want to know when and why they haven't already. So let me know what you think, or if you know anything I can add to make this a better read or more informative. Thanks for reading and I can't wait to hear from you! why do they? you try hard to make your post as neutral-tone as possible but your viewpoint is very clear

but if you think of BW as something timeless, like chess, then no. I'm with the latter, you're with the former.

on the other hand, if you were to watch a pro bw game as opposed to a pro sc2 game today, you would see striking differences

Whether it lives, though, is ultimately up to its viewers.

People in Korea may never be done with BW if they prefer it over SC2. It's kind of like asking when will people be done with Civilization and switch to Command and Conquer.

Just because SC2 is new, it doesn't make it better than brood war. There will always be a broodwar following because it's such a great competitive game. It's exciting, dynamic, impossible to master, and very well balanced. As an SC2 player, my opinion is that broodwar is more entertaining to watch. More high-risk play and more excitement is present in broodwar. You'll never see a one-shot, 72 kill reaver in SC2, or a screen full of storms in a second, or a mine drag that kills half an army, or a doom drop followed by swarm, or a clutch irradiate on a bunch of mutas, or a Boxer-esque blind/lockdown play, or a maelstrom on 20 overlords, or an arbiter recall. These things make broodwar exciting to watch. You can't get away from that. Comparatively, SC2 is bland. Instead of vultures we see Hellions, which, in most games, are never seen. Instead of Firebats we get Marauders, which make bio strong and the game turns into a unit massing fest. Blob 1 vs blob 2 isn't as exciting as a Tank push that meets a bunch of storms, a stasis, a recall, or zealot bombs. Instead of lurkers we get banelings, which are probably the source of the most excitement in SC2 ZvT. There's no dark swarm (just anticlimactic fungals, and rare at that). There's no irradiate. I would argue that ZvT and TvT are the most similar matchups to BW, but even they are boring in comparison. Spectators like excitement and tension, not 1-aing.

- CS is more popular than CS:S Unlike 'traditional' sports, it's somewhat easier to replace eSport games, but you are still going to need a better product. Sc2 is more accessible than BW due to the interface and graphics, but realistically BW still remains the superior product in regards to gameplay. It's up for debate which aspects of a game are more important for the game to thrive as an eSport; however, they currently seem somewhat equal. Which explains the split between BW fans and Sc2 fans.

I would love to do the same thing! I just wanted to know if anyone thought that BW was going to end, or eventually get replaced. But from what I'm reading, no one thinks that, and I enjoy BroodWar and can't wait to see how far it goes

The screen is bigger (lol) and no one splits their units. The unit AI is such that you really only need one storm to catch a ball of units. Storm is just lackluster in SC2. You can storm roaches and they'll sit through it (hydras survive too) and MMM balls will survive like 2 or 3 storms. It's kinda pathetic, really. SC2 fights are lame compared to the 3 screen tank lines of Broodwar. It's just a control group of MM against a ball of Protoss ground that 1-a and ram into each other. You'll have forcefields and a little step back, and if there are HTs there are some barely decent storms. Honestly the mirror matchups in SC2 are the only reason I play still. They're usually pretty interesting (especially ZvZ and PvP). IMO ZvZ in SC2 is better and more exciting, but that's about it.
