Created a house track together with a friend, we go under the alias Equilibrium, our first collaboration is a mellow/chilled house track called Winter Halo.

the instruments are a little too high compared to the percussion, but thats just mastering issues. sounds good! what program were you using?

reason 4.0 =) yeah been trying to master for a bit it sounds good in my headphones tho (sennheiser 380 pro) but i cant assure it sounds 100% perfect on other peoples audio leverage. Should be somewhat enjoyable anyway i hope :D

very loungy feel in this track. i think it has potential to become really good with a few tweaks

Edit: as pointed out the drums might have to be brought up a bit, but in general the bass needs to come up a bit. Its pretty common to mix the bass to low when you use headphones, since it sounds somewhat more bassy in them.

Yeah I have that issue with my ATs. Just get the bass where you want it, then add 10%. People with the headphones won't mind extra bass usually

280s have low bass from what I remember. 380s I think have more.

Hey, I took a look at your track since I've been producing electronic for a few years now. Here are my comments.

What I like:

Progression/melodies are very nice, you vary it enough to keep me interested, the content is there.

The bassline you bring in at the end is good, why is it nonexistant for most of the track?


1. I agree the percussion needs to be brought out a bit more. The kick is usually very prominent and clean in house to give it a solid drive. Are you running a compressor on your kick/snare? I would try that or just turn it up.

2. The pad/supersaw that comes in @40sec is eating your mix for breakfast, you have 2 supersaw pads running in almost the same register and its just too much. Either find a way to differentiate the timbre of the two pads or significantly shorten the notes/play with the ADSR in order to not have the pads muddy up everything. These messy pads also contribute to the problem with the weak percussion, they are blanketing your drums (and everything else). I wanna hear the melody/lead!

Number two is IMO the big problem with the track.
In Hungry Hungry Hippos there are no such constraints—one can constantly attempt to collect marbles with one’s hippo, limited only by one’s hippo-levering capabilities.

The strings are generally too strong for their repetition. I'd like to hear the plucked melody stand out more.

And I wouldn't double the percussion on both weak beats, just the 4th. Need a little more variation.

I thought it was ending at 4:30, then it starts up again with a different tonality.

Pretty good overall though. Look for crisper melody and variation (by that I mean, try to have more than one part moving at once, or don't bother waiting 16bars to mix it up). Be direct with your track's theme, don't just loop as long as you can get away with. It's good to explore, but sometimes you have to trim it down to the essentials.

I'm also listening to Regrets. It's pretty good to start, but kind of goes into a deep freeze from 5:00-7:00 and doesn't really reward the listener for the suspense. Some dynamic variation would definitely be an easy fix, but you can do even more by developing a strong melody or vocal theme in the first phrase and then reprising it after 7:00.

Hey, instead of just muting your beats at 1:07, how about giving me a blast of snares or something to build suspense?

I still feel like when you start back up at 3:48 you're getting us built up for nothing as you transition into a different "darker" tonality then abruptly end it. Could you maybe take the darker side of the melody on for another couple minutes and then finish back on a positive theme, or simply end it there? You could also segway into another song that continues this dark theme. Just a thought.

Much better overall though.

drums are better, but you've just got to do something with the pad/strings progression, maybe cutoff automation, write up some variations or probably both.

listening with earphone too...

around 40 second: Felt the hi-hat or w/e is a bit too sharp mmmm... my ear hurt a little and my volume is not high at all.

feels you can use more chords, just 4 over and over felt bit repetitive.

But other than that it is easy listening non-instrusive music. Might be good for studying or coding in the non-thinking part.

well, dont be. Best case scenario it could take a few days to finnish your mix, but it can also be a process that goes on for over a year as with my latest creation.

Edit: Listened through this again, and i feel that the track could be shorter. The 3.20-4.20 part is a bit too much and doesnt really need to be there. The pads could also use some variation occasionally with some ducking or phasing, or mabye just some EQ-filters to make them a bit more dynamic.
