First off, if this is not the place for ranting, then don't tell me that, tell irc because they told me to make a blog, secondly, I HATE MUTA-LING!! I hate it with such a fiery passion. I know I'm just a platinum player, but still, I HATE MUTA-LING!!
Ok, so let me list a few things as to why I especially hate it:
1) Who even does that anymore, wasn't the cool zerg thing to make roaches. Like it used to be that before patch 1.1.2 it was about a 50/50 split on roach/hydra vs. muta/ling. Now it is like 90/10 in favor of roach/hydra. And the 10% that go muta/ling, I lose to. Why? BECAUSE NOBODY GOES MUTA/LING!!
2) What the hell sort of counter to Muta/Ling is to get blink stalkers/templar with storm/phoenix? Am i supposed to get all 3, and when the zerg contains me to 2 base and i run out of minerals at the main. What am i supposed to do? Push out and hope that he hasn't made millions of zerglings (oh yes there is that "ling" part in the muta/ling build).
Oh but Elkram, you say, you are only supposed to go down one tech path and then stick with it, they all equally counter muta/ling. WRONG!! They all equally counter mutas, not mutas with lings. If you go with templar with storm, congrats you can weaken, but not kill, any mutalisks because you managed to pick the only unit without a physical attack. However, let's say you go with blink stalker, well congrads b/c you just lost. Why? Because stalkers only beat mutas in larger numbers, not equal, not smaller, not even with blink, blink only helps you catch mutas while they retreat. You need a larger amount of stalkers than he does mutalisks to actually stop mutalisks, and, OH! did i mention the zerglings. Yeah, once you beat those mutas and flex, congrads now you have lvl 2, millions of speedlings. Congrads on picking wrong. Now, let's say you pick phoenix, well that is another loss, because although you were able to clear the skies, you still have zerglings just running by underneath because the zerg decided "hey i don't need to commit to mutas, i'll just make 5/8"
So instead of trying to watch replays and learn how to counter this, I say to my fellow toss users, TT it up with me, and we will get through this muta/ling storm.
/end rant.

Open with fast expand -> air and problem solved!
I do this just about every game.

I meant for me. In my context it makes sense.

Phx and zealots man. A couple sentries to funnel the lings. Keep harassing with phx to kill ovies and drones so he has to waste larva which slows down muta production even more (assuming he even gets mutas after he sees the phoenix, which would be dumb). Once he gets hydras get collos and then attack+move = win.

Wall your units in with forcefields and throw a guardian sheild up.

YOU CAN'T BEAT MUTA-LING.
Seriously though, I have great muta-linging ability.

Haha, me too. My Muta-ling rage is all but gone now. I'm actually praying they stick with muta if I get the fast expand up.

Muta/Ling is quite easy to beat. Get the few stalkers, sentries and zealots you should already have and move out to (imagine day9 voice) "Go f*cking kill him!". Muta/Ling means he has only few ground units and mutalisks are almost useless in battle unless he gets the critical number of around 30 mutalisks, so if you move out he can't do much against it.
Very important: If you happen to be on the defensive and don't want to move out, don't forget to build zealots anyways, even if you only see his mutalisks. You will need them when you make a push.
From my Zerg perspective: Muta/Ling is really fun to play because almost every player overreacts and it's fun to see them struggle, running back and forth while you triple-expand and then clean up with multiple waves of a hundred or more banelings. In a recent game against a terran i built a total of 680 banelings, even running them into thors, marauders, siege(d) tanks and planetary fortresses just for the heck of it, i was on 5 bases, he couldn't get past 2 (though he really hard tried to but because of my mutalisks he first built 4 turrets before building the CC almost every time).
EDIT: Another nice strategy as Protoss vs Zerg is to just go 1 warpgate into 2 stargates for mass-phoenix. You will easily have enough phoenixes to handle any number of mutalisks he can produce and when you have to defend you can lift half of his troops while your ground forces kill the other half - and then continue to lift and kill all his workers/queens.

Basically mutaling is easy to beat if you know he's going mutaling and can either pre-empt it with tech, or timing attack him before mutas are done. If you see mutas and you didn't expect them you're in for some fun. Phoenix change to build quicker might help.
Oh, how I miss the corsair. I feel you, OP.

If you see muta/ling. Blink stalkers + storm. Storm rolls over muta/ling especially if he's not making mass roaches with them.

lolol only 1 star out of 5.

One of the best rants i've seen(sorry if this is offending your rant thread ) is the one where somebody on TL raged about how drones can die to strong wind, how Terrans hav a game ending nuke abiltiy whereas zerg didn't, no more pro zerg players or sth, etc etc.
I'll see if i can get it up, i know i saved that rage story as a txt file somewhere,, maybe you could learn a thing or 2 :D

roach hydra will get herpderp'd by colossus so badly.

I don't understand you. You're saying you lose to this because only 10% of users do it but then you complain that it seems overpowered. If its overpowered why don't more Z players do it? Conversely, many Ps don't have problems vs this strategy so why not just try to do what they do. if you're in Platinum you're obviously not playing at a level where you can complain about a strategy imbalance, almost anything in that level of competition can be fixed by simply being better (mechanically or strategically).

I find Zealots insanely strong against Zerglings and Mutailsks insanely weak against everything in this game. I can't fathom how you have problems against Mutaling with Gateway units O_o.

yeah, um....i've gotten better at this....i now go air, seems to help (thanks SCC-Faust). Umm...so...yeah...well, looks as if this post is pretty um...yeah...
