I'm currently working on a starcraft tournament website so that people can host sc2 tournaments with automated reporting, etc and I just came up with another idea as well.
I think it would be cool to make a showmatch website like pro gamers sign up (with a minimum prize amount to play), viewers then donate money to the showmatch that they want to see and when the desired prize pool is reached, a b07 series between the two players is played.
For example, idra $250 tester $200 cool $150 huk $100
sign up for the site with the listed minimum prize. Then, for each set of players, people can donate to that game specifically. Say Idra vs tester Idra vs cool Idra vs huk Tester vs cool tester vs huk cool vs huk.
And then people go to the specific showmatch they want, and donate towards it. Once both players minimum prize pool is reached, we schedule a showmatch between the players with the winner taking 75% and the loser taking 25%. So once say Idra vs cool hits $250, then the showmatch is scheduled.
What do you guys think?

Who is eligible to be on the list of pro gamers?
Can I go on there with a cost of 1 dollar? I'll sap 25% of the other guy's fee :p

Haha, that is a good question. I was thinking of limiting it to top 25 ladder and well knowns. Maybe i'll start off with 30 well known players, and the post a poll every week to see which player should be added.

You'd also have to get people to donate to a showmatch between you and another specific player with a high minimum prize pool.

There's countless flaws with automating this. Like what if Idra doesnt want to play Huk? What if theres a problem with the match they can't resolve? Who's the say it stays competitive? I don't really like the idea :X

Like what if Idra doesnt want to play Huk? Players can choose who they are willing to play. (anyone, anyone with exceptions, exclusive list)
What if theres a problem with the match they can't resolve? Referees
Who's the say it stays competitive? It's more about the viewers getting to see matches between their favorite players and players earning a portion just for playing in it. If the players don't play competitively, then they won't be chosen in future matches.

I guess that's my point. All your solutions bring in human involvement. So at that point, why do we need a new website? There's nothing completely adverse to having it, I just don't see the benefit.

This is a really cool idea man. PM me if you want some help!

I would put everything on stake to watch IdrA vs Cool
Seriously, like Godzilla vs T-Rex
Not even that, Zeus vs Odin

The benefit is an automated way of people donating money to players and an automated way of people telling the community which match they want to watch. Good for players (earn money) good for viewers (watch their favorites)

So basicly an automated match maker based on what people want to see, sounds pretty cool to me.

Yup, i think this is my best idea so far, I'm definitely starting on it tonight.
Watch idra vs tester is the first match. If 10% of everyone who watched a day9 daily donated $1, we could have a $1,000 showmatch. I'm so excited.

Do i have to submit a tournament submission form to shoutcast a single series?
