I just came back from the bank, after depositing the monetary gifts that I got from my graduation party. It just feels unreal that people are so generous. $50.00 is very generous in my opinion, and some people matched that or gave more. I saved the card from my well-off summer neighbors for last because they are like family to me, but it was still a jaw-dropping shock to find a $500.00(!!!) check in their card. It's all just incredible to me.

Oh wow, you must know some people with mighty big wallets or mighty big hearts! I got $80 from my cousin once. ^_^

Both in that case, the next highest was $100, and even that is really, really awesome.

I raked in about $1,500 last year from my open house, which went towards my laptop for school. I sent everyone thank-you cards, so make sure you do that because they gave you some of their hard earned money.

Lol, I got $100 TOTAL from my family for graduating college. fml LOL!

I definitely agree, graduations are special
I got a 3 or 4 hundred dollar camera for graduation from our lifetime family friends and I almost fell down
you'll understand someday when your best friends' kid graduates!

To all the people that said they got nothing. Did you have an open house and invite hundreds of people? Send out mail, and give cards away at school?

It probably has way more to do with the level of their income than the level of their generosity.
Probably.
I also got nothing for graduation but i definitely didn't deserve anything either LOL

People on TL gave me over 500 dollars total to help me with my rent when I was really down in the dumps. I have spent the past year paying people back. Generosity is one of the greatest virtues.

Yes. Your perception skews their generosity haha. Not to rain on the parade at all because I love where your head is at. But I think generosity is more like giving you my last loaf of bread when we are both hungry. Not as much giving you a loaf of bread when I have 100 in reserve.
Though there is a lot to be said for people helping out when you need help, and not just when it is convenient.

I always try to be as generous as possible. Even when I don't have money to give I share what I have (broke ass college student here) with the people around me. Sometimes they don't express appreciation, sometimes they do. But it makes it all the more worth it when they do.

This is slightly misleading...the generosity of family and friends is incredible, not so much from people in general imo.
