Southern Kentucky, here.
I had decided initially that "lack" is what I must have been hearing, seeing as it makes some form of sense. But having heard it from the mouths of several different people and having repeated it in question form myself to affirmative reactions, I can safely say that it is indeed "like" that I am hearing.
