So as I'm entering my last week of school, I started thinking about all the games I've purchased over the last year or 2 that I should try to play this summer that I haven't played much of. I quickly realized how much fucking money I actually wasted on videogames that I haven't beaten/got my money's worth. So in an attempt to put off studying for finals, here's a list of every game I think of that I've purchased in the last 2 years that I never beat or played much of at all.

Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts: I really liked the 1st Company of Heroes (before I got back into SC LOL, I think CoH and World in Conflict coming out got me back into RTS though, and after SC2 was announced I started playing SC again and havent stopped since ). This just wasnt as good, especially the campaign. Only played a few hours online and never really touched the single player outside the 1st mission.

burnout paradise: I bought this game because it got good reviews and burnout3/revenge were AWESOME. Unfortunately they got rid of traffic-pushing and crash mode and didnt add in any new modes. The open world stuff wasnt that great. Maybe I'd of played it more if I had a friend to do online stuff with, but none of my friends ever bought it.

Ninja Gaiden 2: So I thought Ninja Gaiden 1 was pretty good even though the non combat stuff sucked. Ninja Gaiden 2 had a really good combat system but once again everything else sucked. I got about 2/3 in and then there was this level where every enemy had rocket launchers that killed you in 2 hits from across the level. Decided I've seen enough.

Spore: The 1st level(cell stuff) was cool although extremely short. The creature stuff was almost the most boring game I've ever played (it was basically an MMO without levels or dungeons or quests). The tribal stage was even worse so I just never played it again. What stings the most is that I thought the game would be awesome (it got great reviews and was really hyped by others including myself) so I bought the 80$ collectors edition. OUCH

Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway: I LOVED the first 2 brothers in arms games and I still think theyre tyhe best squad-based shooter games ever made. I LOVED the multiplayer modes in them (anyone want to play some brothers in arms with me next week? ). I COULDNT WAIT FOR HELLS HIGHWAY. It got delayed for about 2 years and then finally came out and was totally underwhelming, but I still bought it because I figured it would still be good. They added in a lot of boring ass indoor levels where you dont control a squad at all, which when mixed with their 3rd person cover system was boring as shit. The real nail in the coffin though was that I bought it on steam and there was this problem with saved games where it stored all your saves in a different folder than where the game extracts them, so for the 1st week I thought the saved game function was broken and I ended up using cheat codes to slowly progress through. I just gave up on it because i still had to watch the absolutely horrible intro cinematic every time and I didnt figure out how to fix the save game thing in time.

Far Cry 2: Played for about 8 hours. It was fun although shooting mechanics werent the best, there was wayyyyy too much driving from point to point (AT LEAST GIVE ME A RADIO STATION LIKE GTA DOES), and respawning enemies blew. Stopped playing for a bit for I forgot what reason (I think Left 4 Dead came out?). Not to mention the standard Ubisoft "totally stupid story with some of the most uninteresting characters imaginable" syndrome. Tried getting back to my saved game but I totally forgot everything that was going on so gave up after a few minutes.

FEAR 2: FEAR WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITE SHOOTERS EVER. I was so excited when FEAR 2 was announced. Unfortunately FEAR 2 is a consolized piece of shit and is one of the worst sequels of all time. The shooting is underwhelming, somehow the AI is even worse, and the graphics arent any better than they were in 2005 (not the worst part but very wtf). Not to mention the horrible fucking mech sequences that anyone over the age of 12 will say is lame. I played for about 4 hours and threw in the tall.

STALKER: Clear Sky Bought it on the steam holiday sale for 5$ or whatever. I thought the 1st stalker was awesome although I never beat that either because about 15 hours in I got to part where I couldnt leave an area without the game crashing (that game was BUGGY AS FUCK OMG). Clear Sky is 10% less buggy. played for about an hour, it crashed. Played another 20 minutes, it crashed. Never played again.

Mirror's Edge: Also bought at steam sale because It was mega cheap and there was a time that I wanted to play it. I forgot why I ever did so I still have never touched it lol.

Left 4 Dead 2: Bought when it was on sale and figured I'd play it over christmas break on my laptop. Found out my laptop couldnt run it. Never had the motivation to get back to it during the spring. Maybe I'll try it out over the summer on my Desktop, but without a friend to play with me, I dunno if I will.

Demon's Souls: Bought because I heard great things that it was a really hard game that was very reward (sorta like starcraft!). Unfortunately it was lame hard, and the best way to get better at the game is to just memorize every enemy location in each level which involves playing the same over 20-30 times. THe game was DESIGNED to have the player play each level over and over again (as evident by the soul stain system), which is a fucking horrible basis for a game's design. If it had checkpoints it'd be a much more fun game, at least to me.

Modern Warfare 2: Got for Christmas. Multiplayer was fun for about 5 hours (until you realize it's the same as it was 6 years ago in CoD1 except with better graphics and 10x more shit that kills you instantly and you cant do anything about) . Never touched the singleplayer.

Bioshock 2: Bought because it got good reviews and my friend somehow convinced me it was going to be awesome. I LOVED bioshock 1 as I played it but immediately after started thinking "WTF DID I LIKE ABOUT THAT GAME AT ALL?" Got about 3 hours into Bioshock 2 and it was starting to pick up (REALLY slow beginning). Then my harddrive crashed and I lost all my saves. Not motivated enough to ever install it again.

So I don't even want to add up the cost of them all, and then realize that I've played StarCraft (a 15$ game), for about 5x more than all other games put together over the last 2 years (including the games I did beat/get money out of). If you're like me, I think the best thing to do is not to think of StarCraft as a videogame at all and dont compare them, because starcraft is just so much better than any other game that it's just not a contest. It's like comparing Citizen Kane with any random tyler perry sitcom.

Dude... you're worried about the total cost of 13 games?? There's people with like 50x bigger gaming library than that. Torrenting can be your friend.

And agreed on Ninja Gaiden 2 + Far Cry 2 100%.

ninja gaiden 2 is easily the best action/rpg style game in the world right now

I agree its hard, then lower the difficulty. Right now im playing through path of the master ninja or w.e (the hardest one) and one grab from an enemy = instant KO. So 2 hits from a rocket launcher, especially when you can reverse wind run right through it and even block it (although there is recoil) is not that bad.

You should spend your summer with some old school games (nothing beats an old-school RPG or dungeon crawler). What's the oldest PC game you've played (better not be SC)?

Agreed with Far Cry 2, had some really fun combat but was overall an incredibly shitty game. I got about 2/3 through and couldnt take it anymore. Also bought it relatively quickly after release.

Mirror's edge was really fun though, and not too long. I'd suggest you give it a whirl.

i dont mind that it's hard. I love that it's hard. So many action games are too easy. It's just not good hard a lot of the time. sometime's it's just really lame (like the rocket launcher guys). It's hard not because you lack skill, but because you can't do anything about it.

Bayonetta is such a better action game.

I guess Sim City (that came out in like 1993 right?) I really hate RPGs though. I find them incredibly boring to play and I've never been engaged by a plot of an RPG ever.

Machinarium
Mass Effect
Osmos
STALKER
Civ 4

I wanted good singleplayer experiences and aquired a bunch of games, going to fokus on their flaws here:

Assassins Creed 2
Way to easy. The intro was pathetically bad and later on it got repetitive. Overall an okay game so might finish it one day

Borderlands
Liked this game a lot. Weird environment and take on the graphics but yeah it's a good game. Actually stopped playing so I could LAN it in the summer instead.

GTA IV
The loading times are fucking sad. The melee system is probably the worst ever and the combat system is flawed overall due to various things such as swapping weapons make reloads weapons so instead of reloading you can scroll forth and back. Fun overall and I intend to finish this game.

Just Cause 2
I hated this game. I don't understand whats to like about it. The environment is dead and you have to drive VERY far all the time

Mass Effect 2
Just started playing, to much cinematic and stuff. Not a very good feel to the "superweapons" but part of that is me not being used to it. Overall it seems good.

Empire Total war 2
Played on default difficulty and it was WAY to simple but really fun. Restart in hardest but the behavior is the same the just edited the numbers and made their stuff better...Stupid. Going to play some more and use a mod.

Left for Dead 2
Knew this had limited singleplayer but I gave it a try anyways. Boring.

yeah bayonetta is quite good

well im not going to beat around the bush; people have different tastes

When I play ninja gaiden i get a totally different feeling. Ryu is so agile and they designed him like a REAL ninja, and whenever I die I always feel like it was my fault, that I could have done something better, and I never feel like the opponent has cheap moves. After all, most enemies can be killed by one izuna drop, or ultimate technique, lol, now that's cheap.

What I mean is, there are some fights where (on master ninja) i'll get owned in half a second flat, because i didnt block, and the enemy got a nice combo on me. Other times, I'll come out of the fight not taking ANY damage, because i anticipated every hit, and blocked, and countered accordingly. That's why i love this game.

And i do agree with you, i LOVE that its hard. Way too many action games are so fucking easy now, especially "renowned" ones like god of war. Such a badddd game.

Out of those games (played most of them) Mirror's Edge is probably the most fun actually, you should play it.

THIS THIS THIS! Spore was one of the worst games I've ever played... all except the cell stage which was amazing.

It only got worse as the game went on. Lol the rts part at the city stage was tedious and easy - the worst combination ever.

Please if you're thinking about playing Spore: DON'T.

I also forgot about dead space LOL

I bought it about a week before i went home for winter break last year and played it for about 45 minutes. I decided it was too easy (which makes it completely not scary) and talked to my friend about it and decided to restart on hard. Played it for about half an hour but then had to go home for break and couldnt play it at all (couldnt bring my desktop with me home lol). never got back to it lol.
