i love them.

intimate ambiance, affectionately-slow stops,

a purposeful meandering on steel tracks;

despite its indiscriminate admittance,

the train will always be filled with impracticality

that monogamous, tinted window, the cityscape and countryside canvas on reassuring playback,

the train houses a universe of dreamers on one track

and indulges them in whimsy and reflected silhouettes;

despite its indiscriminate admittance,

the train will always be filled with couples

.

an hour’s too soon.

my destination’s coming up, and i’m not ready to leave behind the propped-up ticket stub i love.

the familiar, coasting stop,

for me, getting off’s always the hardest part;

next stop, morris plains

its funny; i’ve lived there eleven years, yet i still feel more at home on the train

The European train system outclasses the american/canadian train system like its a complete joke. I'd suggest you go there.

Well, you obviously don't know very much I don't know about Ukraine and eastern European countries per say, but the french/german/etc. are faster than taking planes places.

I love train rides too. Having a glass of wine in the summer with a couple of friends cruising through the french or german country-side. It's easy to appreciate the landscape plus I always meet interesting individuals on trains. o.o

Yea, but the NYC subway runs 24/7/365 and its so damn massive. Since it runs non-stop its a haven for hobos, the worse when they're sleeping on the benches when its rush hour. The entire
section even the standing area is empty.

The fact that half of our subway system uses old ass trains, though they have replaced with the modern ones, it turns to garbage in less than a year. I used to have to take a subway line that was rated the dirtiest of all, besides it being probably the most popular for hobos, there was garbage all over the floors. I get on the last stop, the sanitation workers just clean the middle cars and leave the rest before the train leaves.

And its ancient, though not as old compared to the London Underground. Comparing subway systems and subways like the modern ones in Korea and some other European countries, no competition. :/

Train rides are boring as hell unless you have an mp3 player or a cellphone as far as I'm concerned. I don't mean this as a snipe at people who enjoy them, but I have better things to do than sit on a train seat in silence.

Yea, but some of subways mostly run above ground too. Its still the same, inferior to others.

edit: Oh, the LIRR and PATH trains should be on the spot but I rarely use them. Though they are probably better.

Oh get over it. The NYC subway is the reason New York is great. 24/7 public transportation in such a huge city is beautiful.

You cant really get over it to say, its service quality is dubious and prices are probably going up again. Even though I've been using it for over a decade and the place everyone considers the "city" is Manhattan, the largest concentration of train stations are located. I live in Brooklyn, its not as urban here as one might think.

edit: Dont want to derail the blog with my rants. Gonna stop here.

I've never actually been on a train ride, but I enjoy even public transit bus rides. I'd like to take the trains around next year when/if I go to Germany though.

I live in Brooklyn, too. I don't know where in Brooklyn you live but on its own, it is one of the biggest cities in America. It's also a huge borough and has a lot of variety so ..

Really though. The service has gone down lately and the prices are going up but even with these negatives, the positives shine through. $2.25 to get anywhere in the city at any time? Yes please.

NJ!~!

The new NJT trains are nice if you get them, double decker, comfy seats. Europe has nice trains too, but I think what really makes it is the landscape. I rode through the mountains to get out of Pamplona to Paris.... damnnnnn

I dont know but, those videos of having to jam people into a train car during rush hour doesnt seem very tempting. :D Though in terms of speed, reliability and equipment you guys are clearly the winners,

US trains are pretty crap.

European trains can be fairly pleasant.

Chinese trains can be pleasant if you shell out for a sleeper car, but... imagine being on a train for 20 hours without a seat and it's so crowded that it'll take you an entire hour just to walk through the aisle of a single car. Chinese trains can be absolutely ridiculous during the holiday seasons.
