No prose today, just straight up thoughts on starcraft two.

At first I thought it was going to be an entirely different game, with 4 gate mass zealots being the only viable strat, but that was only because I was too afraid to try other units out

After i got raped a few times by reapers (WHICH ARE IMBALANCED AS ALL HELL) i decided to switch it up, and pulled a build like, straight out of sc1, 2 gate goon/reaver (colossus now)

to my surprise it felt exactly like sc1, with the subtle changes making it feel fresh and action packed

The game so far has been sped up immensely

not so much that games are shorter on average (which they are slightly, but i think thats only because rushing is such a strong tactic right now) but after the first pylon goes down the game becomes exponentially faster.

and the macro mechanics for toss sure do make up for the MBS, like i still have to go back to my base and click every single one of my gateways with the chrono spell on the nexus.

I'm going to a potluck now, I'll write more about it later, and feel free to ask questions, ill answer em to the best of my ability

Yeah it's a lot of fun seeing which bw strats are effective in this game :3

For example I did the obvious equivalent of vult/tank just now and raped bio.

That reminds me. I've been hearing 2 gate and 2 rax are more effective in SCII than in BW. What im wondering though is if thats a result of how unfamiliar people are with the game right now or if its because of how different SCII is.

For instance, in TvZ, one base builds were the norm for a time. Later people started using 2 rax expand and eventually the modern 1 rax FE evolved. Do you think that will happen in SCII? That is, as people figure out ways to counter early rush builds and their followups, will we see more macro oriented openings (eg. 1 fact expo, 1 gate core expo equivalents) or is SCII is really that rush friendly?

I'm still curious about the potluck though

I think it's way too early to tell what will happen, but most likely people will constantly experiment with builds on both ends of the spectrum unlike early sc where people didn't experiment with macro builds until years later.

Because SC1 and SC2 are two different games, someone might pop up and pioneer a new standtard build or something.

I think youre right. whatever evolution SCII may go through, it will probably be faster than BW because we now have the luxury of looking back on our BW experiences.

yeah, stalkers do a bamf job against reapers, but reapers can be in my base before i get blink, and they can shut down like, all the pylons in my base before blink finishes, its supremely annoying.
