KGS Go Server (http://gokgs.com/applet.jsp) just become white screen after loading recently instead of going to sign-in, and I can't download CGoban because most of my internet activity is based on access from school library. Does anyone have same problem as me or know how to fix this problem? The only thing that can be similar are the mindset of a competitive player and their studying habits. If you set your mind on improving, finding and eliminating your mistakes,... you'll improve much faster than somebody who only plays for fun. Improvement speed in the double digit kyus is largely meaningless. Almost anybody should be able to get into weak SDK ranks with the correct studying habits. I personally think i learned quite a bit in Go that also helps me in SC2. Especially things like not getting into a hurry against a better opponent when you are a bit / alot ahead. I would actually even say that Go is the game that has influenced me the most when it comes to my SC2 playstyle. Sadly i dont have much time and/or simply forget to play Go these days ![]()

But I admit that I play almost the same way when I'm ahead in go as I do when I'm behind in go. Guess that's one of the reasons why I'm no dan yet.

I think it also helps you alot to accept that an even exchange is an acceptable result in most cases. and if your opponent does something funny, you know that you should be automatically ahead. a good example would be zerg players not building a spine crawler at 29 or 30ish against reactor hellion openings, and the whole followup after that. this is just pretty much an even exchange (altho personally i believe terran is slighty favored after this, but thats just me^^). and if you are a bad player you should not try to circumvent that the game goes this way because it might feel bleh to lose mapcontrol and have to build static defense, there might be ways around it, like building some roaches a bit later on to spread creep/take third, but its also really important to just learn the standard flow that follows. its the same with joseki in Go, especially european players often try to play funky and superaggressive things that dont actually work, just because they think they have to be special. now that im thinking about it, this is also one of the reasons why i really dislike playstyles of people who play that way just to play different than most other people, and not because it has a solid foundation. i dont want to drop any names here though :D edit: sorry for rant, i hope my post is not too unorganized to read :>

Anyhow I'm in plat league right now, but I'm pretty sure my real rank is around silver given that I play against silver players all the time. I think the bonus pool and a wayward win against a gold every once in a blue moon is keeping me in the higher division. Naturally sc2 is more difficult than GO from a technical aspect, and that's really what I'm trying to improve at the moment. We'll see how it goes...
