Hi everyone. I've been an on again/off again Starcraft fan for a fairly long time now, but I haven't ever really tried to play the game for myself (besides one abortive attempt). I'm now motivated to really try to learn the game and get at least moderately good.. hopefully getting to C- on iccup by the end of the year (reasonable goal?)
So I started today, watched a couple of replays to get a vague idea of build orders and then jumped in.. and got crushed, obviously.
But after a few games getting warmed up I actually beat a D+ player and felt like I wasn't completely helpless for the first time, which is nice. I'd really appreciate it if anyone could give the replay a quick look and tell me which areas of my game I need to work on most urgently.

Thanks :-)

Mmm.. if you want advice on strategy and BOs, this is not the right forum.
However, contratz! It feels good to be on the W column,eh?

Well, it was more of a lame brag than anything, and I didn't think it would be appreciated in a strategy forum. But it would be nice if someone could have a look anyway Hope it's not too rude to ask.
And thanks :-)

It always feels good beating that guy higher ranked than you

Keep trying man, don't be satisfied with this victory. I hope you get C-

Do what works best for you. Starcraft, like any other activity, involves a rigorous learning process. If you learn well by watching replays and mimicking a particular player's style, go for it. I personally learned using this method and I was able to climb up to C- pretty fast (with a 10+ pt difference to C) on pgtour back in the days. I even randomed instead of sticking to a specific race; if you choose one out of the three paths, you'll learn much faster and more efficiently.

i thought this blog was going to be about you beating someone up after getting drunk at a bar and finding it out much later after the cops arrive at your house

Just keep at it... I wouldn't get overzealous with this, just keep working at it and check out the livestreams of people playing on here all the time. Gl and hope you get C-

Just take a look at liquipedia and check out the various builds and stuff for protoss, practice them until you can execute them easily and then head onto iccup and own it up to C- EZ ;D
The biggest problem with D level players is almost always macro so yeah just work on that (comes with practicing the builds) and you'll be C- within a month or 2 i reckon.
Also that guy could of killed you while you were waiting for your reaver to build but instead he camped and expanded for some reason on 4 gates, very interesting build dt > 4 gates > robo > expo :s guess he wanted a bit of everything ;D guess you got lucky as well = ] but thats all part of the game.
