I was surprised though how the pros only keep 2 groups of marines, 1 group medic, 1 group vessel, and 1 group tank (if at all) hotkeyed. How the hell did Flash control all those separate groups in his game vs Hogil like that??? Maybe it's just me, but it's no trivial matter changing your hotkey patterns on the fly when most games (that I've watched thus far) you do your hotkeys in another pattern.
Anyone else learning Terran?

It's all about being able to rehotkey and change em on the fly like you said. When I'm concentrating really hard I can do that kind of thing, hotkey this random shuttle to 6, hotkey that random unit to 6, rehotkey 6 to a rax, but it takes a huge amount of concentration to remember especially when you're accustomed to a set pattern of hotkeys.

Concerning the shuttle: Since you can actually cycle through the player's hotkeys in the replay, I was cycling through them as say, Flash or Light sent dropships out. They were not hotkeyed!!? Also, in one rep Light had a second group wandering around that was not hotkeyed either . Morever, when the marines were dropped into some base, they were not hotkeyed either. It was just the main 2 groups of marines and their support units. When marines died, new ones weren't refreshed into the 1 and 2 hotkey groups very quickly either. All the rest of the hotkeys were set to comsats and macro buildings throughout the game.

If you watch replays with chaos and see their hotkeys, you'll notice that if they max (watch sea vs savior on andromeda or Flash vs Savior on fantasy to see maxed pro TvZ) huge clumps of units are unhotkeyed, and its this same logic when you're dropping/leaving units in strategic positions etc. Oh and of course they don't hotkey dropships TvZ. Whats the point?

Whats the point? If suddenly on the minimap enemy blobs show up next to your dropship? Although I suppose if you are very fast with the clicking you might not need the hotkey, but just seems scary. I hotkey my shuttles all the time in PvZ for this reason.

watched the two Light vs... Movie and some other guy on HBR (I'm learning HBR atm) He hardly hotkeys at all, 890 scanners, 567 shopfactories, 1 tanks 2 vultures, 3 vessel + goli, except when he's harassing, he then has one group of vultures on 1, one group on 2.

Its usually when he goes for timing push before hive. For example his game vs ggplay on athena.
