Uh, again, saying that I like Tactics BETTER than the other FF games says nothing about how much I like the rest. It doesn't matter how different it is, saying that it's better is only a relative qualification.

How does that logic even work?
I like A better than B, therefore I dislike B?

don't listen to jayson, he's dumb.
Tactics is a completely different genre than the other FFs.... it's a strategy game, like starcraft (only turn-based and makes mathematics the divine path)
Kinda like mario games and mario rpg. ^_^'
So, don't compare it with the rest of the rps.
Uematsu has made the music for every last FF game out there, ya?
All I remember was being told: "You can kill the T-Rex if you junction properly" and I could never do it. I think I was too young when I played that game to understand the complex junction system. Maybe I'll go back and retry it.
You said tactics was the best meaning you like that play style better then the original FF play style which is turn based style and not "tactics" style. To say the one tactics style game is better then the original style seems a bit insulting to the series. The game wasn't in the true spirit of the series except for the story, I suppose. Saying you don't like the series probably wasn't right, but liking the one odd-ball game out of the original line of the series doesn't quite add up for me.

Not so. I consider Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, for example, to be pretty terrible compared to most of the traditional Final Fantasy games. A game doesn't get cool points just for fitting a certain style of play for me. I say Tactics is better because IMO it's better across several fronts that apply to all of them, regardless of style--encounter design, class advancement, character development, etc.
FF8 was my first Final Fantasy game, so I love it for the nostalgia. There's a lot of subtle hints and foreshadowing in the game that I never picked up on my first play through, so the game becomes much more amazing when I find these bits and understand more of the story. While FF8 might not be able to compare against FF7, I still believe it to be a great game in its own right.
ff8 is an amazing game. and such wonderful music. I don't think that there are many games where the music makes up so much of what a lot of people remember about them.
I know ff8 is good because I loved it and a lot of people hated it. That means its something.
I loved the plot, the characters, the music, and most of all: the gf/junctioning system. at first it confused me but its not hard to maneuver at all, and setting it up/messing with it rewards preparation and thinking.
I loved playing around with the junction system, dont understand why everyone hates it. Its not like you had to draw magic either, since you could easily refine tons of good magic from items, by using the GF ability. I think it was pretty cool, allthough I didnt like the "futuristic" setting.
My personal favourite is FFIX, just because it owns so fucking much it makes me cry.
