I haven't seen anime for at least 4 years now but after hearing someone on TL talk about it and trying it out, I was hooked. I finished both seasons and I can say that it is now one of my favorites. I know the anime has been over for a while but I'm slow and would appreciate if someone ppl would try to remember the show to have a good discussion
[Spoilers from this point] Some random thoughts about it:
- Possibility for Season 3? I mean, Lelouch did die but I've heard people speculate about him being given the "code" before he died thereby making him immortal. I would hate there to be a season 3 without Lelouch, its just not right, Suzaku can't get the same show done. I really want Season 3.
- Did anyone else feel like the last 10 episodes felt a little rushed? I mean, the author didn't even resolve the love triangle between Karen/C.C./Lelouch and we never got a confirmation either...(Damn I wanted Lelouch + C.C.)
Not only that, but Lelouch + Suzaku's activities during their new reign was not even a full episode long...I would have liked to see how former Black Knight members got captured
It also didn't help when useless scenes were wasted on Rivalz and his academy...
- Lelouch suddenly becoming an emperor of a country that he hated seemed like the worst plot twist to me. The rightful heir to the throne should be Scnedizer (Butchered his name)and forcibly grabbing the throne through Geass seems so unrealistic.
- I was also sad at how Shirley was just killed off like that, she had good potential to work with Lelouch and I liked her character alot.
- I was frustrated at how Lelouch just took in the blames such as admitting to using Geass on Euphemia without explaining that it was an accident. At LEAST he should have tried to tell Suzaku. Or the fact that he didn't even try to stop the Black Knights from betraying him. He didn't even use his Geass to force them to follow him but they assume so which pissed me off.
- The real emperor Charles dying was sort of anti climatic, I didn't want this spiritual world BS erasing him through willpower but more physical accomplishment like actually managing to conquer Britannia with his Black Knights and then killing the emperor.
- I was disappointed at how Lelouch never managed to become an ace pilot and always had to depend on others. I mean, he is a strategist and the mastermind but there have been other animes like Gundam Wing where a brilliant mastermind could also pilot like a God, for example Millardo Peacecraft with his badass Epyon. Even Karen's Knightmare was more recognized than Lelouch's Knightmare.
- Oh, and I hate Nina so much. Her insecurity leads her to differentiate and exclude other nationality from herself and the way she was badmouthing Milly during that banquet seriously made me hate her more.
- I really liked Lelouch's character because it was slightly evil with a hint of a good cause. And the fact that most main characters aren't evil makes him more original. But I really wish the ending wasn't like that; he doesn't need to atone for his sins of using Geass by sacrificing himself, thats just too much. The ending was very ironic and breath-taking, but I wish it just didn't have to be that way.
Will post more crap later, too tired to think

Whoa how different is the Manga from the Anime?
And is Nightmare of Nunnally considered the 3rd season or just an alternative story?
|
alternative story I believe, from reading through it so far.
|
it's an alternative story =p
and how curious, i just finished watching recently as well
i also agree that the second half of R2 was way too accelerated, it felt like they cut out a lot of potential stories and subplots by the end
i think making lelouch an ace wouldve ruined it though, it would've made him too godlike
one final note, it's not Karen it's Kallen
btw, did you watch sub or dub? if so, which version/which site did you watch it on?
|
haha. there is a new code geass thread every 2 weeks without fail

Perhaps yeah. But it showed his weakness in physical activities.
I watched sub. I liked the original voice actors. I don't know about the version but I didn't watch it streamed, I downloaded both seasons via torrent

In response...
- word of god says lelouch is dead - they were ORIGINALLY going to end it with the first season, but then they decided it was making too much money and made a second one that was ALMOST EXACTLY like the first one so they could sell more pizza hut; also they made a movie but I haven't had the chance to watch it yet - also, it's pretty obvious lulu x cc 4eva~ - step one of the plan is to become the symbol that everyone loves to hate - sad that Shirley died too, but I'm also sad they decided to give her back her memory and all of that - suzaku can RUN UP A FUCKING WALL WHILE DODGING BULLETS AND KICK THE TURRET, of course it's unrealistic - often times other people can point the idiocy and self-loathing we inflict on ourselves, but rarely are we able to spot it in the moment, so lelouch taking the blame for everything seems to be the major theme here - Lelouch = ace pilot? more likely for cuteangel to win the next OSL... Suzaku would have had to learn how to be a mastermind in response, but it's pretty deliberate that they set up that foil dynamic between the two and weren't going to change it anytime (although they did revisit it in having them team up and the like) - Nina went from cute to creepy to pitiable to just outright confusing - no, he needs to atone for his sins of, oh, I dunno, BEING EVIL FOR THE GREATER GOOD - check out the jesus imagery in the last episode
And last of all, Nightmare of Nunnally is just another moneymaking scheme for Sunrise...

Every time I see Code Geass being brought up, I put on the last song, think about the ending, and cry.

It's not a sad ending. Parts in it are sad, but I'd say the ending is really happy.

Lelouch becoming emperor was not nearly as retarded as the way Euphy died
seriously wtf was that

i didn't say it's a sad ending. It's just one that makes me QQ, because of raging fanboyism.

Lelouch is dead. The End. Lelouch becoming emperor was kinda funny, especially if it ended like that, Death Note wouldve been cool too if Light won, I wouldnt mind he if lost to L, but I didnt care much for N and M.
But back to geass, Euphy was annoying but her death was so silly, but kinda funny seeing as she went on a killing tirade.
Series was pretty good but the whole angle with his Mom and Pops turned out to be pretty lame. Aside from Zero's occasional tirades, the supporting characterrs carried the show...C.C, Llyod, Cecil, the School Preisdent, the Blonde knight of 8? and Jeramiah.
Lelouch being an ace pilot would be kinda silly, hes was the mastemind he didnt need to be in battle unless it was absolutely neccesary. The Leader doesnt really always have to be the biggest ass kicker, OP pointed out Gundam Wing, which was ok as Gundam Series, but remember quattre was sort of the leader by the end, but I suppose that didnt matter who was the leader or best fighter because all the Gundams in Wing were overpowered the max.

yeah i watched dub cause i trusted adult swim to do a decent job lol, i haven't watched enough of the subbed versions to know if the dub or the sub was better though. do you know if you watched a fansub or an official sub? cause that'll prbly affect how ppl interpret the ending; i think i've seen two different subs so far and the ending words are kind of significantly different.. also if you watch the dub i think you'll very likely interpret the ending as very happy and that lelouche survives with a code

- They tied it up pretty well in season 2. Any additional story line would probably destroy the anime. Bringing Lelouche back would probably cheapen the worth of his death. The whole "zero requiem" plan worked only because Lelouche had to die in the end. If he somehow came "back", he would have to come back as zero, and not Lelouche. I did like how the creators left it up to the viewers to decide though. The story implies that Lelouche is dead, yet at the end there's a small hint that perhaps he is alive, thus allowing the viewer to decide which ending to believe. If ANYTHING were to happen, I'd say a movie.
- I've always thought the anime was extremely fast-paced. I didn't really care for any of the love-relationships. I didn't really like any of the girls except maybe Shirley.
Lelouche's and Suzaku's reign was not a full episode long, but it was a fair amount of time in the anime, enough to establish himself as the emporer. As for Black Knights being captured, are u talking about after the final battle? They pretty much had to surrender because he took control of their main battle station, the Demacles and control of the FLEIA bomb, which meant the Black Knights had no more backup. It's like Lelouche went after the "king" and checkmated them.
- It wasn't exactly Britania that he hated, it was his father and his seemingly lack of interest in the assassination of his mother that made him loathe him and everything that he stood for. Once the truth was revealed and he defeated his parents, he realized what world he and Suzaku had to make and they hatched their "zero requiem" plot. Taking control of Britania was the first step of the new plot. The rightful heir is actually not Schneizel, as he is not the first born. On the other hand Charles may have never planned to hand down the crown to the eldest son.
Once the Zero Requiem plot was formulated, Lelouche felt no more need to restrain his powers. His plan was ultimately to sacrifice himself, so he didn't really care what happened to him, which is why he went all-out with his powers and mind-controlled everyone who got in his way.
- Pretty much anyone who saw this show was in rage the episode Shirley died. I thought it was bad enough when Euphemia died, but man when Shirley died.... ugh... But the emotional impact it had on the anime was priceless.
- The Euphie incident is really something he can't rectify. First of all, no one would believe it was an accident especially because they believed in him was a lie, and really it's not in his character to try to explain his actions. In the end it didn't matter because his main goal was to get everyone's hatred to target himself, so the fact that they were angry at him for whatever reason just benefitted to his eventual cause. I'll admit though, while I was watching those scenes (before the Lelouche's true plans were revealed) a lot of thos misunderstandings did piss me off as well.
- Yea... a lot of things didn't happen that you would expect to happen. Some weird twists that were just wacked and really the whole "other world" stuff really seemed... out of place or just plain odd. But the main point it got across added to the story atleast (the whole past, present and future thing)
- I actually thought Lelouche's physical limitation was what distinguished this anime from all others. The brilliant mastermind is completely useless in physical combat. Through sheer mind-power (and geass powers... -.-; he is able to overcome all obstacles. Really if Lelouche had the brain-power, skill-set AND Geass... he's be pretty imba.
- I don't think anyone liked Nina. But if you ever want to see her in a new light, type in "Nina masterbates" or something in Youtube. I found a scene that I missed the first time and went "WTF" because I didn't realize just how deep her obsession was until then.
- Mmmmm.... I don't think you understood his full plan. Zero Requiem is not about Lelouche finding atonement for his sins. It was about uniting the world with a single cause, a single enemy to defeat. That was to be him. By taking control and becoming emporer of the world by force, he effectively made everyone hate him. Because he was a tyrant and a dictator who controlled the press and the media, everyone saw him as a ruthless evil deviant. Thus, the world was united by a common enemy. Once the world was liberated of that evil, the world would open its eyes to the importance of peace.
Nunally had the same plan. In the episode where Lelouche uses his Geass on Nunally, she argues to him that taking control through force and fear is the wrong approach. Lelouche points out that she is doing the same thing with the democles and FLEIA bombs, to which she replies "This Democles is the symbol of hatred, the single point in which everyone's hatred would be directed at". Lelouche realizes she was doing the exact same thing as he was with his Zero Requiem plan, and thus feels no more restraint on using his Geass.

Code Geass season 1 was good. Not counting Berserk anime's ending, Code Geass R2 was the biggest piece of anime-trolling I've ever seen (at least before Haruhi Endless Eight got aired). I mean, the way the second half of R2 went... I cannot believe people take it seriously.

lelouch is not dead, at the end there is someone driving a carriage with C.C. on it who looks exactly like him. (also implying a lelouch/C.C pairing. C.C. was the only one lelouch actually kissed, i mean initiated the kiss.)
