Sorry If I threw a shitstorm I guess it was already coming though. I guess its no diferent then how my mother taught me to pray before going to bed. A tradition that creates a sence of safety in small childrens life.
When you grow up you can choose to belive or not.

Why are swedes taught to be reserved and not outspoken? (Like much the rest of Scandinavia)
Man, get down from your high horses. Who are you to decide what's wrong and right to teach your child.

FuDDx just ignore the noobs in this thread.
Awww your son is so cute, especially how he's looking away from the camera and his "child-accent"
It's good that you're getting him used to remembering and learning things, I hope he kicks ass in school.

Uhh because it's something taught at like every school within the USA? it's like a tradition considering of course no young kid will know what means at that young of an age. I guess we aren't allowed to do or teach anything in USA that other countries will have negative views about? I guess that is what we get for being the country with the most attention and economy control.

+ Show Spoiler [off topic] +The fact that somebody doesn't understand or agree with some custom of Americans doesn't mean that they're bashing America, dude. It also doesn't mean that they're just hiding their secret jealousy of our economic dominance. Get over yourself.
The funny thing about the pledge is that, while it's a tradition, it's one that was pretty much artificially created by the government. The pledge of allegiance was written in the 1950's during the Cold War, and the 'one nation under god' clause was included to distinguish Americans from the atheistic Soviet Union. Essentially, the people who are claiming that the pledge is a tool of indoctrination have a point, because that's basically what it was created for initially. I don't think that's really its function any more, and you can argue either way as to whether it's a good thing to teach kids or not, but that's the nation we live in.
Cute kid, Fudd.

Not sure how talking about usa has anything to do with myself? lol "get over yourself" ;( nice try though The point I was making is that when lakris asked why the OP taught his son the pledge of allegiance, you went off on how everybody thinks the US is bad and so on and so forth. The comment you were replying to didn't suggest that, and your point is dumb to begin with. So what if somebody disagrees with your opinions or policies?
I could guess at why a percieved slight against the US instantly puts you on the defensive, but I won't bother. Nobody's saying that people shouldn't be allowed to teach the pledge of allegiance, and nobody's saying that the US can only do things that other countries like. And, believe it or not, there are legitimate criticisms of the US that don't stem from secretly-harbored jealousy over economic status and penis size. That's what i meant by 'get over yourself.'

I pledge alliegance to the flag of the united states of america. And to the republic for which it stands, one nation, under god, indivisble and liberty and justice for all. Did I say it right? I think u.s schooled kids stop having to recite it at some point past 4th grade, or if the teacher isn't a total idiot and doesn't want to waste 5minutes everyday. This brings back memories. Not once did I contemplate what the words I was saying meant. Placing my right hand over my heart didn't mean shit either. I just did it cuz others did. But now that I actually say it in my head, these words are pretty heavy.
no offense to fuddx, but the response foreigners give to a member proudly posting his son's recital of it seems perfectly acceptable. I am a U.S Student through and through and my sister is as well. Some of her 4th grade homework makes me cringe at how much pervasive propganda is abbrasively blended in. I guess I'm just a little bewildered and disgusted that some parents feel pride for this.
But really posting your kid reciting U.S propoganda on a international website seems to be a bit tactless. (Even though most kids that recite it don't give a shit about it)

at the end of it what is he saying? "i wanna see your pistol?"

You have a cute kid, but no offense, teach him something more classy like poetry or ezekiel 25:17 +1
What's with the hate about what he said? He just wanted to tell you about how annoying it is for students to recite something which they don't really care about.
Teach him this.
