Nothing to crazy here, no balloon hats or ice carvings. And no fight reports just my son and his attempt at the pledge. Enjoy.

you put your son on the internet? x_X

edit: lakrismamma, I'm not American but when I got here I was instructed to say the pledge to both the American and Texas flag every single morning during my high school years. I guess it's some sort of ritual/tradition/convention?

The pledge was way easier than my times in Taiwan singing the National (or rather, party) anthem every morning, yay for comparisons to worse alternatives.

Its taught in the school. He is going to pre-school twice a week and my wife said he repeated the pledge perfectly at the mall and I was impressed thought I would try it and see if he could do it again.

It will be ingratiated into his very being as soon as he goes to Kindergarten. Resistance is futile.

I think I had to sing the first verse of the national anthem once every year.

yay for almost a complete lack of patriotism I guess.

yeah. for those of you who don't know, children in the united states are indoctrinated/brainwashed from a very young age. one of these methods is learning the pledge of allegiance and swearing their life to God and an ugly-looking flag.

"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

the fact that it has god in it never fails to amuse me. separation of church and state go fuck yourself

At that, I think I can't remember a single instance by high school of actually reciting the pledge, hm.

EDIT Iazz, I find it somewhat amusing that you probably know the pledge better than I do, brainwash indeed.

Most atheists in the U.S. acknowledge that the "under God" thing doesn't really matter. There's only been one court case on this taken to the district level. We don't care... why do you?

I think it's funny that you dipshits are talking about indoctrination and inculcation and brainwashing in a thread where the OP just wanted to show his son had learned the pledge. Get over your self-righteous smug attitudes, most people don't learn the pledge in some sort of brainwashing pseudo-religious indoctrination, they learn it because it's a part of living in the United States and having even the tiniest modicum of patriotism.

Granted, I don't read TL very much anymore but I haven't seen as belligerent and idiotic a post as this one in a long time. It's a tradition. It's kind of stupid, but it's part of the culture. No one takes it at face value or even thinks about it, except for when it's being spoken.

Now go hop on a kangaroo and grab me a Fosters, mate.

yes i am aware of how archaic it is, but it still amuses me.

edit: HOLY SHIT there are a lot of insecure americans in this thread suddenly defending themselves haha wow.

i was just pointing out how silly the pledge is and how it amuses me, no need to get all frisky.

Now all of a sudden its insecure to point out the stupidity of your argument? I'm not insecure at all. What the shit would I be insecure about? That because I know the pledge I've been brainwashed? I don't think so.

I wonder why is that every single and each one of my university's PhD. professors, scientists, hell even U.S. history teachers and the people that work in construction are all foreigners? Why?

Maybe we just said to our native countries/politics "go fuck yourselves" and fled here. There's no patriotism in that even though we sing the anthem and raise our flag all the damn time.

Why argue over a statement that has 0 meaning to those who say it at all?

??????? my comment had no hint of malice toward FuDDx. And, there is nothing wrong with criticizing the practice of mandatory recitation of the pledge of allegiance.

Your kid is awesome as always Fudd.
