edit: lakrismamma, I'm not American but when I got here I was instructed to say the pledge to both the American and Texas flag every single morning during my high school years. I guess it's some sort of ritual/tradition/convention?

Maybe we just said to our native countries/politics "go fuck yourselves" and fled here. There's no patriotism in that even though we sing the anthem and raise our flag all the damn time. Why argue over a statement that has 0 meaning to those who say it at all?

The funny thing about the pledge is that, while it's a tradition, it's one that was pretty much artificially created by the government. The pledge of allegiance was written in the 1950's during the Cold War, and the 'one nation under god' clause was included to distinguish Americans from the atheistic Soviet Union. Essentially, the people who are claiming that the pledge is a tool of indoctrination have a point, because that's basically what it was created for initially. I don't think that's really its function any more, and you can argue either way as to whether it's a good thing to teach kids or not, but that's the nation we live in. Cute kid, Fudd.

Not sure how talking about usa has anything to do with myself? lol "get over yourself" ;( nice try though The point I was making is that when lakris asked why the OP taught his son the pledge of allegiance, you went off on how everybody thinks the US is bad and so on and so forth. The comment you were replying to didn't suggest that, and your point is dumb to begin with. So what if somebody disagrees with your opinions or policies? I could guess at why a percieved slight against the US instantly puts you on the defensive, but I won't bother. Nobody's saying that people shouldn't be allowed to teach the pledge of allegiance, and nobody's saying that the US can only do things that other countries like. And, believe it or not, there are legitimate criticisms of the US that don't stem from secretly-harbored jealousy over economic status and penis size. That's what i meant by 'get over yourself.' ![]()

no offense to fuddx, but the response foreigners give to a member proudly posting his son's recital of it seems perfectly acceptable. I am a U.S Student through and through and my sister is as well. Some of her 4th grade homework makes me cringe at how much pervasive propganda is abbrasively blended in. I guess I'm just a little bewildered and disgusted that some parents feel pride for this. But really posting your kid reciting U.S propoganda on a international website seems to be a bit tactless. (Even though most kids that recite it don't give a shit about it)

Go tack up your poster boards elsewhere Ive explained my self more than enough in this and previous posts. I am not a supporter of alot of what or government does but I do happen to live here and must deal with it as best I can. On a side note another stupid Kiddless kid tells me what to do with MY KID I am personally gonna head butt the fuck out of you given half the chance. End angry ramblings. Edited some of the silly angry ramblings I hate arguing with respectable forum members for fear of my own safety. But there is no need to react with such unnecessary anger. Consider your position. You are an adult correct? Internet threats really do you no justice. I have no qualm that your head will surely dissemble my head upon contact. What troubles me is you are missing the larger point. I dislike writing with a condescending tone especially towards an older audience because it makes me feel a elitish asshole vibe I get when I read fanacist. Obviously logic will not work with you. No one is telling you what you should or shouldn't do. I did not once suggesting you taught it to him. What I referred to as tactless, was posting this on an internet forum. Would you like a lesson of what tactless means? Tactless is having your son dress as a ghost in black neighborhood in Alabama for Halloween. (your son metaphorically) It's obvious you mean no harm. Your son just wants to be a ghost! But think about the connotations of what that 'ghost' can bring with it. The fact that you are or aren't a supporter of the government is entirely irrelevant. Propaganda is all encompassing. Whether it is effective or not, is entirely up to the viewer and obviously in your case, it is quite effective. As for promoting the sense that you are more sage and wise since I am 'kiddless', I hope even a balloon clown can realize how irrelevant this is to the offtopic shitstorm at hand.

1. Pull your kid out of school so he doesn't get indoctrinated, and home school him. 2. Also, no vaccines, those are government attempts to mind control the youthzs. 3. Buy a large plot of land in the middle of the forest. 4. Buy guns for hunting and general preparedness... the damn rednecks might come for you any day now (don't say the people in this thread haven't warned you!!!). And if they don't, the government might try to forcefully put your kid back in school to teach him songs and rhymes and shit. Better safe than sorry. 5. Live happily ever after, one with nature. Note this brilliant plan will require you to stop this bar hopping-balloon-making crap. Your wife may leave you too. Still, you have to do it for the boy. Stay strong and fight on!

Not once did I contemplate what the words I was saying meant. Placing my right hand over my heart didn't mean shit either. I just did it cuz others did. But now that I actually say it in my head, these words are pretty heavy. no offense to fuddx, but the response foreigners give to a member proudly posting his son's recital of it seems perfectly acceptable. (Even though most kids that recite it don't give a shit about it) tactless? Umm lets go back over this 1 I did not teach him it the school system did. 2 It has nothing to do with what he is saying its that he has remembered it better than most High school kids can learn anything these days.( I am proud of my son, nothing wrong with it) I am sorry but really how in the world do you think I am being tactless? To the previous haters, yes, there are some things in life in which humans have lost all of their senses on, and are acting purely on instinct. Some things are good whereas others are bad, but you definition of good and bad isn't absolute; something can be good to you but bad to someone else. The only way you can determine something is legitimately right or wrong is by going back to the basics; FuDDx's baby is pledging allegiance to the U.S. flag, yes we can see, and what does this mean? This behavior encourages Leo to be a normal, civilized, respectful, obedient, and faithful kid in way way or another and honestly, I don't see anything bad in that. In the long run, all of this will be up to him, not his parents (though they can have a HUGE influence) or anyone else. FuDDx, the main reason for the shitstorm in your blog is because the derailers saw it more like: My son trying out the terrorist training Nothing to crazy here, no balloon hats or ice carvings. And no fight reports just my son and his attempt at the AK. Enjoy.

No, this is the time for him to learn certain enunciations, not memory. You know how you have an accent and most native speakers don't? You learn all the key enunciation stuff at that age. After they reach a certain age it's hard for them to differentiate certain sounds and thus they'd pronounce words inaccurately. For example, my mom moved here at 23, now 51, speaks perfectly fluent English (can tell traces of an accent but not much of one), but she herself has a very hard time telling the difference in sound with the letter "a". For example... apple pronounced normally vs it pronounced "ay - pull". She honestly can barely differentiate the two, and it takes her a few times of hearing it pronounced both ways before she can tell it's even being pronounced different.
