Thought I'd mention something I've seen on TL. I'm not dishing on anyone, only trying to make a great site better, on its 7th birthday.
Help threads are a common sight on TL. Some are for homework, some are for graphics, some are for computer problems, but that's besides the point.
There are great people on TeamLiquid, who help other people with their requests and problems. Hell, our members attend top tier schools in the United States. We're great engineers, programmers, musicians, and artists. We're also great StarCraft players. Hell, we've got people like Lz, IdrA, and ret regularly commenting on these forums.
Wouldn't it be within decent human nature to thank these people? When these people help you with your homework or your website or what have you, wouldn't it be nice if you could thank them with something more than just a few lines of hastily typed text?
If only for the sake of returning a favor, I believe, when we make help threads, we should list what we'd be willing to do in return. If a coder finds you a nice link, volunteer to help him with graphics sometime. If some guy just got out a tablet and designed you a nice wallpaper, maybe watch his replays and give him some StarCraft pointers. We're not bad people here on TL, but we can be better.
So in conclusion, (I know it's idealistic) I think we should post what we'd be willing to do in return for someone helping us. Hey, give back to the community, and make it better than what it is already. Happy 7th Birthday, TL.
/end idealistic rant

I think the idea of the community is that everybody contributes and everybody benefits in a sort of voluntary mutualism. Gassed in Europe kid is one, for instance, as well as all the typical advice and poll threads. Generally people like to help because they can, or they troll, or do w/e. But I think everybody here in general is a fairly well-intended person and would help a fellow member out if they were in the shitter due to bad luck or something.
But thank you anyways, random TL members that helped me. I will continue to post my insanity/troll/offer a few random diamonds in the rough as a compensation for your services.

You're welcome, looking forward to more awesome trolling

TL has helped me love StarCraft more than I already did. That transcends simple words like "thank you".
Though I'd really love to be able to contribute more....

I think it was already touched upon, but if this is a good community then we shouldn't need to explicitly reward each other for service. If I expect people to help me with my problem, then I should be helping other people with theirs. It is one of the main themes of tl to contribute as much as you take away (if not more).

That's a cool idea actually, even if you just do it as an individual thing.
