He was great against Senegal. He couldn't get into the game today though.

I’m not sure it should be, I can’t think of a real outstanding manager in waiting and it’s not like England bombed out playing like trash.
Was a decent quality, intriguing 50/50 contest really.
Feels England had the opposite luck than last WC where they exited earlier but looked more convincing and just ran into a top notch side sooner.
I imagine there’ll be a big overreaction but he seems to have instilled a good spirit in the camp and the young players like Bellingham, Rice, Saka and Foden are just going to get better.
if i was an england fan i'd be clamoring for someone like tuchel or martinez over southgate.

They have to sack him after giving him too long a contract, if they want to change. It seems like a natural time to move on for me, but the contract is what it is. He's done great imo but I don't think we're going to see England improve any more under Southgate.
England played so well yet lost. Yet, that may be the factor that count against him. That he just lacks the final Midas touch, the tactical savviness to eke out the win when it really counts and even when odds and momentum against you. Basically he seems to have hit his peak. Can he still learn and improve? Maybe. Question is, should he be given more time and room to learn from his mistakes? That's a question for the bigwigs to answer.

If it were up to me I would leave him in charge of as many 'big picture' things as possible. Maybe like a director of football type role. He's so, so good at that. It was Southgate who completely revolutionised England's youth setup before he took over the national team, and created an environment where the likes of Foden Saka and Bellingham can grow into the national team. Most nations had this decades ago, but England only caught up when Southgate was given free reign. He should stay in charge of that stuff.

Mbappe was neutralised. But like I said some days ago, the hidden threat is Giroud and Griezmann. And so it proved. The first goal happened because the English defenders just backed off and thought that all was safe as long as the attackers were marked. But a top team like France has so much depth that you just can't ignore any player. Just like Umtiti popping up to score the winner again Belgium in the last WC semies. Or even going further back to 1998, defenders like Blanc and Thuram scoring the match-winning goals in the knockout rounds.
France is more than just about Mbappe. That's the main takeaway for France's future opponents. But it's hard seeing how Morocco can neutralise all the possible threats from France. Especially with all the injuries and fatigue that will kick in.
Thats a great analysis of you if you predicted giroud and griezmann as the main threats! Most just forget him.
Also yeah foden is so overrated. He reminds me if those young barca players who everyone thought were world class when they were playing with barca world class players and once iniesta and co got old they tutned out to be mediocre

Martinez achieved less with arguably even more talented Belgian squads than Southgate’s got.
A Tuchel could be an upgrade. There’s plenty of better coaches out there but there’s conspicuously few top level contemporary club coaches who’ve recently worked in the national team area.
Those that have, it’s a mixed bag. Conte worked relative miracles with the least talented Italy team I’ve ever seen, and Roberto Mancini did a fantastic rebuild job culminating in a Euros, World Cup disaster notwithstanding.
But a Flick or an Enrique results have been mixed.
There’s undoubtedly someone who could do a better job than Southgate, but whoever it is doesn’t strike me as immediately obvious. I wonder if the club and national game have diverged so much that what makes club coaches prosper at the highest level isn’t replicable given limited time, and what you need is really someone to vaguely set up alright and get the ‘mood’ right.
It was a difficult game but France is simply superior, all in all I hope Morocco or France will win it all. Don’t worry CR7, we won’t let Messi win the World Cup so both of you will never be the goat

Foden’s a regular in one of the top 3/4 club teams on the planet, he’s put in decisive match-winning interventions in big CL knockout ties.
He’s not on that Mbappe tier but he’s pretty bloody good. I’m not sure how else one could objectively rate him.

Messi’s already the GOAT though :p He’s definitely semi-carrying his nation, but on the flip side I wonder if over-reliance is holding Argentina back from developing to be a better side overall.
That’ll be an intriguing semi. Croatia are absolutely stacked in midfield where Argentina are probably weakest there. But Argentina have Messi and those dangerous forward lines.
Morocco need a hell of a performance in the other tie. It wouldn’t blow my socks off if it happened, but I’m favouring France.
In the final I think France are pretty big favourites against either opponent.
England had the pace and physicality in both offensive and defensive areas to give France problems. Argentina and Croatia have quality but they’re not especially quick across their squads.
Morocco if anything might have the best shot IMO. They’ve a couple of games playing as the underdog and executing their gameplans.
I think the finals are pretty open. France has a hell of a squad, but they didn't look that impressive against England. I'm favouring Argentina. They don't always look dominant, but they are a really tough team to beat.
France vs Argetina finals would be great.
But, even though it's the least likely scenario, I'm hoping for a Marocco win. That would be historic.

This is the fkn sad part, the guy just cursed not to win anything. Going to be England record goal scorer, spurs record goal scorer, premier league top goal scorer and will have won fuck all xD
