But yea I still agree. While mbappe looks like the best player in the world and England has a strong counter attack, Brazil is so much more complete. Football still has so much volatility and the other quarter finalists all have so much quality that nothing is a given - but they look like solid favorites in any given game. It's not just the offensive artistry, but they're also so good at regaining possession - and they also have a great defense and a top goalie. It's like they have elements of the best Spanish sides, but with a significantly better offense and without the same defensive set piece weakness.

All of the favorites are winning comfortably except Croatia, whose game was still fairly boring.

Relative weaknesses in particular departments just don’t really become a factor until you’re up against a puncher in and around your level. Plus stylistic quirks and how they match up I think folks are sleeping on England a bit, I’d still favour France over them. They’re looking good though. Spain could do their midfield strangling thing, I think Brazil are looking better but if Argentina come up we might see some crazy derby antics go on

South Korea just got lucky to play Portugal in the third match after Portugal had already advanced after beating Ghana and Uruguay, and scored the winner in the dying minutes when Portugal had no reason to defend seriously since Uruguay was leading 2-0 against Ghana (the only team that could've caught them in first place). If Portugal needed a point from the game, a defender would've cynically fouled Son and the winning goal would not happen. Simple as that. Context is everything. The most disappointing part of it all is that Uruguay would've put up a better fight against Brazil, and at the very least lost while wearing the Brazil team down. So South Korea fluking through merely gave a free pass to Brazil - essentially an overall win for the favourites.

Those games look hype. | ||
