i tried uploading an image with the "embedded file" tool and it gave me the warning "file uploads are disabled", do i just have insufficient permissions to do this?

anyway, since i apparently don't know what i'm doing, most of the new ladder map images are outdated, can someone fix them? correct ones can be found here: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/starcraft-2/532039-teamliquid-map-contest-10-voting

Guys, please pay attention to the fact that Russia initiated military conflict in Ukraine. Hence, people are really sensitive when you mark Ukrainian players or news with Russian tags or flags.

Hello everyone,

I don't know if it was discussed before, but when there is a double-elimination grid like the current HSC one ((Wiki)HomeStory Cup/17 I would much prefer it if the winners' rounds were shifted to the left by one. That way the participants of the RO16, RO8, RO4 etc. would all be in the same column, while all the rounds where only the losers' grid players get to play (RO6, RO12 etc.) would have an empty column in the winners' grid.
In my opinion, this would be a lot more intuitive, especially when you want to check the grids against the Racial Distribution table. Is there a reason why the current layout is the way it is?

Cheers

Currently a loser in the uppers bracket falls down to the lower bracket in the same column, also in a lot of brackets this is a width consideration.

Yeah, I can see that, but to me that doesn't make sense either, because the ones that fall down don't play in the same round, but in the next round. So logically speaking they should be in the next column, right?

As I said, it's also a width consideration. There are only so many things you can have next to each other. And then you want consistency over all brackets.

I don't understand that point, because the losers' grid is wider than the winners' grid, so if you shift the winners' grid to the left by 1 column, the overall width doesn't change at all.

That is not true for all double elimination brackets, for some of them it is the same width. And we want the falling down to be the same for all double elimination brackets. Imagine a bracket like this one: (Wiki)Template:8DEBracket

Okay, I can see that. I still would've preferred the more intuitive view over the more compact view, even if it meant scrollbars more often, but I understand that you guys have different priorities.

How about the option to let the users choose between both views? E.g. a checkbox that shifts one of the grids back and forth. Is that possible in a wiki?

It is possible, but not really worth the amount of work required

Hmmm, I've browsed through a handful of templates and they look the layout of the grids and the contents are strictly separated, so I can't see just by looking at the code what the layout is going to be.
How about this: In group stages you can show or hide who played in which order and even the map order, so maybe something like this can be used to shift grids around? I could try my hand on it if you show me where the layout templates are stored. It can't be harder than programming C++. :-)

There are currently two types of bracket generally speaking, one whiuch looks like (Wiki)index.php?title=Template:16DEBracket&action=edit and one that looks like this (Wiki)index.php?title=Template:MLGAnaheim2012&action=edit . A setting like you propose would have to work entirely via javascript though due to our cache setup, so it is hardly practicable. Introducing a change like that across all of our wikis is a huge task.

Oh. That's sad to hear, but as a programmer I know very well that features that look like they're easy to implement can turn out to be super difficult (and vice versa). I've been there plenty of times.

I thought that if all I had to do was look at the group stage template, copy the show/hide part into all the bracket templates and then use a little brain power to figure out how to move stuff to the right instead of to the bottom, then it would've been doable with reasonable effort.

So, does that mean that for the group stage template's show/hide function you use Javascript as well?

And out of curiosity: Do you also you JS to automatically fill out the brackets bit by bit during a tournament, including the precoloring and preflagging of boxes from later rounds in case of e.g. ZvZ or Korean vs. Korean?

The prefilling would be somewhat feasible but unfortunately has certain performance implications due to how wikis work.

http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/korean/players/403_SSamJang

So this is a photo of freemura, not ssamjang, as can be confirmed in any vod of freemura.

for instance:

as you can see the guy with glasses is ssamjang and the guy with dyed hair is freemura.
