I really wish people would just chill and mellow out. Like, when the announcement was first made start a thread on GOM website with logical points instead of raging on TL. Or now, maintain a cautious-but-reasonable attitude instead of conspiracy theories. I don't know if it's the whole thing with Brood War or it's really hot outside or what, but people are losing their heads.

Nice stream quality btw what a great way to show off those sc2 graphics
it´s for free now. if you dont like it, don´t watch it.

I'd definitely pay $20 for these VoD's. I'm very excited for the news and hope for even better opportunities in the future. I'd gladly support community endeavors I believe in because the returns on that investment will be paid to all of us in the form of more frequent, higher quality, and overall better competition to watch all over the world.

I believe changing the low quality stream to free counts as an action. I think changing the price to $20 to include the higher quality stream as well as VODS counts as an action. Do these 2 changes not benefit fans directly and immediately?
Action AFTER fans bitched moaned and complained and AFTER showign that like 80% have no intention of paying?
I don't care about "after" the fact changes. If you're gonna wait until problems occur and then fix it you're no better than KeSPA. I want to see initial actions that show "well how will the fans react to this", not coverup actions that does that.
Gretech is still on the same level as KeSPA really

They finally fixed their bandwidth check also.
Woot! HD stream here I come.

Kespa never listened to us at all. This is defiantly an improvement. Seriously, kespa had no idea there even were non-korean fans, or didn't care. The fact that your this ungrateful is sad. They could have ignored us and left it the way it was.

SC2 is a whole new ball game for Gom. I agree that Gom needs to show us some real improvements in the future (no lag on stream, better quality stream, free vods) but give them a few months. A lot of that stuff is easier said than done.
That said, in a few months if we still haven't seen any improvements, bring out the pitchforks and call them kespa

If they said it wasn't a money making scheme and it was only used to cover the stream costs they wouldn't charge 50 dollars for live+vods. To stream across the world it'll cost them anywhere from 4 cents to 8 cents an hour. Assuming they give 3 hours of content a night, thats 24 cents per person, so they'd have to be giving over 170 hours of content at the highest price (8 cents an hour) even though we know they're not paying 8 cents an hour since their quality is 250 kb/s. All in all, if they planned ot have zero free stream and only a 50 dollar pay stream as the option for foreigners.
Theyw anted to make money otherwise they would have charged something like 3 bucks for the month to recover costs. Bandwidth alone doesn't a stream make. Perhaps when they are talking about covering the costs they are talking about using that money to pay Artosis/Tastless, or the people that have to work on/with the stream servers, administrative costs related to streaming. I'm not saying it's a good idea to do that, but it's just one of many possibilities. You may be right in the end, but I can give them benefit of the doubt on this occasion especially because we will probably never know all the real costs for sure. Not even considering that they probably want to make some money off the tournament. Most guys here in the forums forget that Gom is a company that wants to make money. I remember day9 talking about his King of the Hill tournament and all the work related to that. I don't even want to know all the stuff happening around a tournament with offline prelims etc.
I gotta give big thanks to Gom for lowering the Price though. Even though I'm hoping that they'll upgrade both the quality of the free and premium stream in the future, I'll definately order the updated version for 20 bucks

As long as i can see whats happening in game, and hear Tasteless/Artosis casting i am happy. I dont know how we went from hanging onto every little tiny screenshot or blue post like it was sacred gold pre-beta to crying about how the world is ending because we dont get to see idras face in 1080p for free, but its a real insight into how the human mind works.
I dont consider room for improvement as being bad service.

there's no way they could have "ignored" you guys, cause they're trying to make money off of you guys and you guys pretty much said you guys won't buy.
KeSPA isn't great at listening, and obviously they're not going to listen to foreign fans because there's nothing at stake for them, although they apparently do know TL exists and follows it to an extent (Check TL's twitter -- KeSPA follows it). Saying "KeSPA never listened to us!!!!" is kinda worthless since they have no reason to, unlike GOM. KeSPA did make changes to their shit "after the fact" and netizen complaints, just like GOM.
What's the difference other than you now feeling you're more empowered?
"ungrateful"? call it what you want, I'm just a skeptic.
Also why would I pay for such a pissy poor service when I can get HQ Korean VODs for free? lol

Sorry I am not buying it. They have provided free lower quality vods for warcraft 3 and starcraft 1 in the recent past and a premium service that was strangely priced at around price it is now being touted as being "reduced to". Also are you really convinced they have no idea of the many and varied ways of providing completely free VODs for the viewing public, at the very least YouTube and UStream? Because I am not convinced at all. The times that the "free" stream will go out just are not convenient for the rest of the world and they know it.

its a new age, and things cost money. Tournaments are not free, nor is staff and all the back office work.

You can say they didn't mean for it to be a door in the face move, but it pretty obviously was, regardless of intentions. What surprises me is how enthusiastically everyone is accepting it. You think if this was their first announcement everyone would be fine with VODs (and a decent quality stream) only being available for $20/month? But no, they said "oops sorry guys we didn't know any better" and made a low quality stream free that should have been free all along and all of a sudden everyone's acting like they're a bunch of fucking saints and heroes.
Oh and btw guys LQ stream still isn't free, it cost us all Proleague and MSL.

I consider companies based on the signals they send out (ie: actions). Their actions seem rather self centered and money oriented rather than for the fans. Whether or not the "Door in face" technique was intended it's clearly working in terms of this thread.
I don't see what's wrong with being "hostile" to companies sending out terrible signals. If they send out positive signals, then ofc I would be more optimistic and skeptical.
Basically I don't like playing what-ifs and being optimistic without any evidence. Give me evidence (actions) Gretech cares and I'll be more optimistic.
It's quite simple really. But then again everyone is so eager to jump down people's throat as being haters if they say anything bad lol

It's a good sign, and a start. After playing the test videos I agree the quality is lacking, but given the rather large change they made here, no reason to see that it won't improve all the time.
For instance the SC2 free stream for MLG was rather good, but in the past the WOW free streams have been of horrid quality and you could barely see anything in them in the normal frame, let alone if it's windowed.
As for why they don't use youtube or ustream, I'd suspect it's because they created their Gom.tv player, and want to use that instead. I mean they already paid someone to create, might as well use it.
It is my hope that over time there would be a way for them to provide us a HQ SD stream that is totally ad supported and an HD stream that is a couple extra bucks.
GL GOM.
