I'm not even going to talk about the shitty job they're doing with SC2, going to talk more about their approach to "ESPORTS".
We have to realise that ESPORTS isn't just all BW, though BW is the pioneer game that led to the rise of the ESPORTS market. Note that all these time, Blizzard has never been actively involved in promoting ESPORTS that much, save for events like Blizzcon and WWI.
So why now?
Obviously it's the cash issue. They aren't earning much from BW now, and BW is the only thing that's still holding people back from fully supporting SC2 (they're not getting the idea that we don't support it because it sucks shit). KeSPA's not paying, go figure.
My thought is that, to them, once they get rid of BW, people will start flocking to purchase and 'support' SC2 and its "proscene" because they won't have a choice. Why else would they care so much about IP rights and all other nonsensical BS that they didn't care about 7-10 years ago, when BW proscene was on the rise? I really don't get it, Blizzard.
Also, should MBC be forced to stop broadcasting (people are saying how OGN can still continue), then how are they going to be responsible for all the job losses in MBCGame? BW is the main attraction point for both OGN and MBC, and just killing it off is totally irresponsible and lack of respect. Remember, there are folks over at both channels who've been there since the birth of the BW proscene. Buuut obviously, Blizzard doesn't truly really give a fuck about ESPORTS.
Blizzard is just further trying to seal the success of SC2 by killing off all other possible hinderance to its growth. All under the pretense that they're trying to promote ESPORTS. WTF do you guys know about ESPORTS anyway, oh, other than the fact that it has potential to rake in lots of ka-ching?
What's the purpose of this blog? I don't know. But I'm just utterly disgusted and disappointed at what Blizzard's doing. It no longer caters to the demands of the fans. It no longer understands the true needs for development of a very fragile market. All it sees are the huge dollar signs. As someone who've been following ESPORTS for almost 8 years, I'm just plain sad that the creator is also becoming the destroyer.
I just hope that the BW scene remains intact and that Blizzard can just back off to let KeSPA and the Korean BW progaming scene do their own thing.

They want monthly returns like they get with WoW?

I totally agree with you Kona. Also, what Blizzard is in itself doing to the game is just ridiculous. I mean they're destroying it themselves by not allowing chat rooms and then the most important thing playing internationally. I want to be able to play with people across the world, meet their strategies and apply them to my game. I mean in the US we may be making such a good build thats not known to be people in Europe and Asia. And Vice Versa. Also, without chat rooms, how are we able to meet new people and become friends with them. -I think that they're not allowing us to play internationally since they want more money. Buy three different regions for $60 a piece and you get $180 right there. This is just ridiculous, they're destroying both starcraft and starcraft 2.

im 120% behind the last statement so logn as korean BW is still around ill watch a bw stream over sc2 stream
|
I agree with you, the digust for me is from the fact that they are not fostering an open esports community.
|
We had lots of chances to bring this up during the pre-beta stages...you know when representatives of sc fan sites were invited to headquarters and what not.... I'm not saying for sure that I know 100% whether or not these representatives made these issues directly stated and clear but it sure as hell doesn't seem like it. I also don't know if Blizzard did hear these things and are just ignoring it. Either way, it ends up being bad for the esports fans.

During the pre-beta stages, nobody would have known Blizzard would resort to such dirty, underhanded methods.
I am truly disappoint.

i find it funny that all of tl is now coming to understand that sc2 is a joke. however its too late. tl has played an integral role of helping to shape sc2 away from the competative scene. ever wk der why they care mkre about the wow players remarks? tl should hate sc2 and there should not be a forum for it. sc2 is a prime example of what the gaming industry has dissolved into. in the end it is a business. biz makes money and thats how it works. if you dont fit into that equation you will be left out.
its nice to see everyone waking up and discovering that sc2 is a shit game. its only beta is no longer an excuse (as if it ever was) and i can only dream of the day when tl shuts down the sc2 forum. this would eliminate 99 percent if the new foaming at the mouth kids and hopefully allow tl to get back to its brood war roots.

i've always been against SC2, ever since I saw how the game looked during the announcement preview.

tl has shown blizz exactly how NOT to make this game. we willingly sowed the seeds of our own distruction.

If you want to see the way Blizzard is heading you should take a look at what they did to WoW. Everything is being given away, there's nothing hard left in that game, nothing competitive people are looking forward to achieve. Slowly killing off the great foundations their games were built on to acquire more casual people to play the game for a few hours. It's really sad that they walk over all the fans and people who played their games for years to achieve their goal. Blizzard is slowly turning into yet another profit orientated game studio.
For now we can only hope that BW will prevail and the bw community goes back to pre-sc2 announcement times.

Wasnt there something in the korean law that kespa could use to their advantage? God I hope so..
Anyway, I pretty much agree with everything you said

its really funny how blizzard decides one day "fuck man lets just make sc2 in 12 years"
|
Agree 100%. Sad days

I just hope that the BW scene remains intact and that Blizzard can just back off to let KeSPA and the Korean BW progamin Yeah exactly let Kespa do whatever the fuck they want because they are total saints and are only doings things because they know what is good for e-sport and they are listening to the community and they treat the players with respect and pay them a good salary . . . WTF people WTF since when became Kespa the "saints" of e-sports?!?! i mean have you not read Threats like this? http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=126075g scene do their own thing.

Has there been any successful sport that's been owned by a single company, from top to bottom?
One of my biggest problems with them is that they just flat our lie to us. They make all these BS reasons for this or that decision. Its very disrespectful to lie like that.

I know blizzard is giving broadcasting rights for sc2 only to gom, but I haven't been keeping up with the news. Are they really forcing kespa to shut down and not letting mbc/ogn broadcast sc1 at all?

However, it is now the org that represents the BW pro scene in korea now, and id much rather have it the way it is now than it being shut down by bullshit blizzard fucktards. in short, im not saying kespa = good, im saying no kespa = no BW pro scene

Im not an IP lawyer, but being a korean citizen i can tell you this much: there is no practical way for blizzard to shut down SC1 broadcasts UNLESS the fans stop watching BW and start demanding more SC2 coverage. Then, the decision makers behind the BW scene would naturally switch over to GOM and SC2 coverage. THe Korean justice system is a big phony riddled with corruption, and even if it were within blizzard's rights to shut down kespa, they wouldnt be able to. However, i don't see BW fans walking away from the pro scene for shitty coverage on GOM tv (the korean casters suck, and I never liked english commentaries due to their lack of PLAAAGUUUUUUUUUU)
