In order to find fellow starcraft enthusiasts in my university (The 'Find a starcraft buddy in your area' thread has failed outside of USA and Canada ) I am going to contact my Uni's Korean Society. What i ask of TL's resident Koreans is:
Does the average 19-23 year old korean known about/follow SC?
it might seem like a silly question, but i dont want to contact them talking about SC and they have no idea what i am on about, but niether do i want to explain everything to them only for them to already know everything there is to know about SC and think im some noob :s
My back-up plan is to contact the gaming society but i have low hopes. Ill let you know how i get on in a later blog.

In my experience, pretty much every Korean knows about it, but the level at which they know it will vary. Some only know Boxer and a couple others, while others follow it much more and even play SC.

Almost all the Koreans I know here [the int'l students at least] follow/know about SC.

I would say most korean 19-23 year olds know about sc.
For example any of my korean male friends growing up certainly played sc at one time or another. However, I could probably name just as many that I've met while here at university that have no clue what it is other than maybe a game.
Maybe as an analogy its kinda like assuming all black people know about/follow basketball. Here in the states, everyone knows what basketball is, but it would be unfair to assume a black male follows basketball simply because he is black.
My suggestion is not to assume anything or even think along the lines of ' just because someone is korean they know about sc ' It's not anything like that. I don't know where that impression comes from [ actually I do ] but you should treat sc like anything else you'd talk to a new person about.

All the korean girls ive talked to know about starcraft, and then its a 50/50 split if they like it/play it, or despise it. Every korean guy ive talked to know it and played it.
Keep in mind this is in Canada and talking about Koreans pretty recently from Korea.

koreans I know get annoy when I just start randomly talk to them about starcraft and stuff. These are people ive never met before.

theres hella koreans at my school. i bet they all play starcraft....at night.....when no1s watching......

I've met a few and they all followed the scene too some degree.

So far all the people around that age play/know "star" but its 50/50 between that and sudden attack. I don't know about following the scene but they do seem to know about the S class players.
A few asked who I liked and I said Savior and Jaedong and they said " So you play zerg?"

I would say pretty much every 19-23 yr old knows about it but only a small portion actually follow (by my standards) the proscene. I rarely watch TV but when I do it's when I eat and I'm pretty sure if they collected data on that kind of stuff, BW would be top 3 along with other sports channels.
Basically what I'm trying to say is that only a minority follow the proscene but most guys around that age still have no problem enjoying the game on TV even if they have no idea who newcomers are.

At the 1st meeting of StarCraft club at my school about 18 people showed up, and only 3 were AZN at all, and I have no idea if korean. It's weird becuase there are a ton of koreans here and i was expecting to be maybe the only or 1 of a few white people O.o

So that is it! The Koreans at my school are all liars... We all know you guys play SC secretly! Don't deny it to us! You are just afraid on conversation!

"Oh hai. I am going to assume your Korean from your slanted eyes and stylish haircut; question: Do you know or follow Starcraft?"

I do believe that almost all Koreans know about Starcraft I mean, its become such a culture lol.. 98.5% I believe do know starcraft, unless they are white-washed to the max
|
i think that asking a random person "so, you're korean... you must play starcraft, right? Is sort of like how random people from other countries ask me "so, you're American, do you own a gun?"
|
Well do you? And no, I dont own a polarbear.:D

when i tell ppl i play sc, and they go, "oh, yeah, ur a korean" -_-;; i know some koreans at my university, and 100% of them have played starcraft at least once, but as far as i know, none of them still plays. :/ i need to find hidden gosus, mainly FOBs

My highschool had a lot of koreans, though none of them really followed starcraft. They knew of it and knew of Boxer and such, but to them it was just some thing on the side that they didn't really pay much attention to back at home. Though I had a white-washed korean friend who was a maniac at following SC and knew everything about progaming. Kinda ironic...
I own a dogsled, live in an igloo, and spend my summers cutting down trees with my pet beaver.
Eh?
