so ya I'm completely fucking broke. well, not completely... I have about $50 to my name right now. for whatever reason my loan for school is delayed, and I won't get my paycheck from work until Oct 10th.
that means, 1) I can't pay my tuition 2) I can't pay my rent or bills 3) I can only afford one more tank of gas (which will last me another week) and 4) I have no money to buy textbooks.
this leads me to my next point:
I'm broke, and I school just started last week, and I've got to read three chapters of my International Law class by Monday, don't have the textbook - and can't afford it ($70). You can maybe guess what happens from there. I thought it would be a good idea steal the book.
I've stolen a few things in my life, some candy here and there, a book once, and a shirt once - I guess most everyone has stolen stuff at least once in their lives. Needless to say, I felt like shit every time I've done it, but this time I actually did it because I am broke as fuck as opposed to being a dumb kid.
I walked into the book store this afternoon and immediately I got a bad feeling, not many people were in there, employees all around, etc. I thought to myself "just turn around and leave it's not worth it." But, being the retard that I am, I proceed to find a place where there's nobody around, slip the book in my bag, purchase a few notebooks and a pen, and leave.
I figure everything is going smoothly, I'm out of the bookstore and walking in a hallway by the food court when two guys come up to me. One of them flashes his badge and says I need to come with him.
Long story short, they take me up to the super secret office shit of the bookstore write me up, get my statement, and tell me that the dean will handle it, etc.
So I feel like shit right now, not really because I fear the punishment... I'm a pretty good student with good standing (3.8 gpa and involved in school activities and shit) so I'm fairly certain that I'll just get a slap on the wrist... its not as if I robbed a bank or anything. But, I just can't stop myself from feeling really terrible as if all the guilt from stuff I had previously stolen built up and subconsciously I wanted to get caught so I walked right into a trap essentially - went through with it even though I KNEW it would be a bad idea.
Blehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Overall crappy situation.
I'd suggest self honesty. You do what you do, because you like that option the most among the choices you have, not because of some "unconscious" portion of the brain that you can't control. (Don't worry if you don't like my idea - plenty of people say I'm wrong and you can be one too.)
|
Well, sometimes that just happens... Everyone does stuff that they regret it's how you deal with it that counts
|
yea I could have done other stuff, I just didn't consider other options at the time, dunno why that was the first thing I thought of though.

how did u feel when the two guys approached you with a badge? i would have bugged out or panicked. i think i can sort of relate to what it must have felt like.
i was under 18 and i played online poker, and so did many other friends. this was the era when poker was booming in 2003-4. one night, i get a phone call from a guy claiming that i am an underage gambler and that it's illegal, so all of sudden i'm sweating my ass off, and i see my mom and my sister looking at me on the couch like "whats going on? whats wrong with you?" i was blinking like crazy, and i didn't know what to do. i was like, well it's my sister's account, i don't know what you're talking about. of course, i was naive and dumb. the guy, who happened to be one of my friends, sounded so real. their prank got me bad.
man, if i were in ur situation, i would have felt like finding the nearest mice hole, so i can hide inside. knowing i would get looks from the ppl who work at the book store, i would not have balls to ever go back to the same bookstore again.

hm...I guess this means you cut down on flying to LANs. It's ok man, you stole a book for studying, they'll understand your situation.

I have a friend who works for the university bookstore and all he does is look like a normal shopper and scout out thiefs. He nabs people on an almost daily basis.
Point is that what you haphazardly tried to do is an age old tradition that schools have been battling for a very long time. You should never have tried this.. you need to be very crafty to ever hope to get away with it or go to a shitty school.
Slap on the wrist is most likely correct. But maybe a fine.. sounds like that'd be killer.
If you cannot afford books buddy someone in the class and ask to study with em. Go to the library and see if they haveit. Or talk to the teacher.. there are other options than stealing. It's not like you are the first kid to not be able to afford a book for a class.

i just grab my friends book and scan every page Sure it takes like 30mins but in the end it costs me like <10$ whereas the book is about 50-100 $
I walk into class the first day- with a shitload of papers bound together with some string and shit ;Take it out, slam it on my desk (papers make this huge fluttering sound) and flip to page 1 Everyone in the class is like what... the... fuck... *them being all rich kids*

Haha dude, I really wouldn't expect any of this from you, hahaha. I'm not laughing at how crap the situation is, just how taken off guard I am. GL DD

yea, the library didn't have the book on reserve yet, and school started Thursday, and there was an assignment from Ch 1-3 that was supposed to be read by Monday , didn't meet anyone yet in the class (only had 1 lecture so far).
ya one of them was a narc type character like your friend.
actually when they approached me I was really calm about it. i am TERRIBLE at lying so basically the guy sat me down and said "do you know why you're here" and I said "ya I stole a book" . meh.

i'm not interested enough in poker to play it enough to get good at it, i think it is boring as shit. i was temporarily really interested after watching Rounders, played some online, got really bored and didn't play after that until I went to Canada and we played.
so ya, essentially, poker is too boring for me to take up seriously. ;p

That sucks. Reminds me of a guy whose bank account got frozen for a month for some fraud problem...someone was trying to steal his ID. He had like $2 for a whole month...almost starved... -___-;;
Does your school not put books on reserve in the library? Ask around in class and see if any of the other students will let you photocopy the pages from their book? Or even ask the professor?
|
hell, why arent you out making money instead of writing this. either way, that sucks

and what about your family....
