Their premium model for other games is horrible and any useful API access for other third party stats sites will cost money and makes you directly finance your competitor who can then just copy your tools if they are successful enough. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/stormgate/stormgate/posts/4088892 https://stormgate.untapped.gg/en/docs/api I'm already feeling bad for modders if that is how they'll handle stats. Pretty skeptical that an NDA for a phase with hundreds (thousands?) of people is going to hold, but we'll see how it goes. I find it very interesting that they went down the exclusive partnership route for data/learning tools. I'm used to the LoL/Dota2 ecosystem where they have an API system anyone can access for free/a nominal fee, and they leave it to the free market to create stats websites and strategy tools. I think it's been pretty great for a popular game like LoL, where all the sites compete, copy each other's best ideas, and generally come up with pretty useful free and paid tools for users. However, given the fact that FG's stated ambition was to sell their own Dota+ like premium data/stats product, and they seem to be pretty strapped for resources at the moment, I can see why they'd go down this route. Still, very curious to see the exact implementation and pricing of the product—best case it's that it's a cute tool for those who want it, worst case is that it ends up being a pay2win-ish element. Personally not that worried given my experience with the HSDeck tracker (another untapped product), but we'll see how other ppl feel.

If I compare it to Godsworn (made by two people!) it looks so bland and low quality.

Well the game being under NDA does mean that info coming out as leaks are just considered leaks. It's hard to get a bad reception to leaks because people read into it as clearly a work in progress. If the game wasn't under NDA it would feel more like a 3rd faction release, rather than a testing period. And that would be rough if it ends up being received badly As for Stormgate World, they announced they're continuing their partnership behind the scenes. So hopefully that means working on their own stats system.

I can only speak for MTGA and in that case they paywall basic personal and global stats. Only the two last sets, not all ranks are shown, no matchup statistics, no historic global data at all, no helpful tools for new players if you don't subscribe. I doubt it's going to be as bad in Stormgate, but they will do the in-game and external stats for Stormgate. I'm sure they have some form of revenue split and will try to squeeze players. What I heard on the new beta: New faction is canon rush as a faction and completely unbalanced. Many units still missing. No campaign preview, only one new mediocre coop map. No new hero. This is the last beta before early access?

Gotcha, thought it may only apply to sharing anything specific to the game like specific screenshots, mechanics explanations, lore, etc. I still think they are making a big blunder having NDA but I may be wrong.

What you want to do is base your marketing around game streamers who make money by playing games for the public, then 🚫🚫🚫🚫strong arm their community and give them an ultimatum to learn a new game and make no money or fall behind the possible opportunity cost. 🚫🚫 no-spoilers-nda-enforced This will make them HAPPY to play! 🚫🚫Its good to make the most interesting part of streaming, that is the trying of new things, be completely hidden from the public. 🚫-no-spoilers-NDA-ENFORCED Nothing unhinged looking here. 🚫🚫🚫 https://imgur.com/a/uBgVexk How the fuck do you even enforce your NDAs with your last million in the bank, seems like a giant ass resource suck. If I had a criticism it’s that they bounce to NDA closed, to open, back to NDA closed. If stuff’s in a very rough build I think it’s perfectly fair to keep it under wraps, but it makes that part in the middle odd. As I said at the time nothing is a hype killer than a very rough bare-bones build unless it’s a game showing some new and interesting type of game. In which case they’ll be more forgiving if other stuff is missing, less the case with what FG are trying to do. Feels a rather odd cadence to the auld hype building

I understand and feel for them, but in terms of marketing and generating hype, especially off of a something that looked like quite a successful Steam Fest/beta phase, they seem to be shooting themselves in the foot. Especially with 2024-5 being so RTS heavy. We'll wait and see, meanwhile there's bronze protoss cheese for me to rage to.

Is Immortals gates of pyre gonna release this year? They been in development for longer than Stormgate and must also be running out of funds (though I assume they are vastly more responsible than Frostgiant). Zerospace I think first will release next year? David Kim's new game probably closed beta towards the end of the year? Release 2025?

I had a look at this game after I reading your post and it takes the same direction stylistically as Stormgate but is somehow far more detailed and sophisticated, even though it's only made by 2 people? Well... Obviously I can't say much about the gameplay of Godsworn but it look like what I would imagine a Warcraft 4 to look like. I'm not really sure I understand your post. Could you clarify?
