As the name suggests it's action role-play so you pick a role and have some fun action. I don't find PoE systems fun, they have way overcomplicated things that should be simple.

The leaked footage can be found here. There are two gameplay videos included with footage worth close to 43 minutes. There is a good look at the world map as well. Keep in mind that this is a private test so there is still a lot of information or gameplay that won’t appear in the final game. Source

However most other ARPGs nowadays seem to have a comparable limit but that's a dislike for me I like more complex characters. Otherwise it looks like a game that has a good bunch of qualities that would make me want to play it. I think a skill limit can make things interesting if there is interesting choices. Guild Wars (not 2) is a fantastic example. PoE handles it a bit differently. There is not as much of a hard cap but depending on choices you are limited to more or less active skills, depending on socket number, items and support gems used. It has gotten to the point where there is socket pressure and you have to make choices. D3 on the other hand failed to capitalise on the limit it set. The limit was just unnecessary friction because of how the rest of the skill and item systems were designed. Honestly, some of the stuff I have seen so far looks quite good. If this was pre D3 I would be a bit hyped. Knowing the current Blizzard though, I'm very sure the game will have great combat feeling and not much else. I expect the story to be very cheesy and a lot of the systems will be boring and limiting (trading, skill system, items/item drops). One of their recent posts also shows how much they care for the shop. I'm very certain it will be integral to the gameplay experience. Language such as "we want the shop to be an engaging experience" makes me want to throw up.

As for the shop, if it's anything like PUBG/valorant or such I just probably won't care for it or possibly buy a few skins occasionnally if I feel like it and that would be all right (incentive for devs to keep it all clear from cheating, maintain the game etc), but whether I'll buy/play the game or stick around or not really depends on how good the systems and gameplay are. [PUBG used to be buy to play with no shop, then buy to play with cosmetic shop then free to play with cosmetic shop, might always have had season passes, cosmetic only. Valorant free to play with cosmetic shop and cosmetic season pass is pretty fine, both these games are nearly pioneer at anti cheating and update themselves well and smart overall imo.]

I absolutely loathe all those daily login rewards, weekly chests, daily tasks etc. etc. Why can't we just go back to playing the game when and how you want to, without FOMO?

Because they want engagement. Some smart marketing assholes have figured out that people who engage with a certain game on a daily basis are more likely to spend money in the cash shop. So this is what you get. Everything is designed around getting you to spend the maximum amount of money on the game.

Everything is designed around getting you to spend the maximum amount of money on the game. Yeah but that depends how thats done right. Some games I would avoid due to it, others not. If it's 100% cosmetic and the skins don't even hide the items I just don't really care. Now the season pass on D4 for the free portion of it has boosts so you can earn some sort of boost by playing only. Daily logins or w/e can be just annoying, but the boost could be anything that resembles a similar gameplay mechanic that wouldnt be labelled as season pass so. Like some XP orbs you earn by playing and you can give to your other character or incidentaly any items you drop and give your characters are pretty much boosts etc. And that is interesting because it actually rewards for playing alts rather than just your main though you could still choose to just play a main and make that rewarding too. Something like a daily quest or w/e can be an annoyance in that context I would agree because it could take away your freedom of what to do and how to get what you want in the game or how you spend your time in it because now there's that one or few specific things you have to repeat and get the better bonus for etc. But when the reward is only cosmetic you can just ignore it completely without consequence. [another PUBG example?? season pass "quests" in pubg include some daily or weekly random stuff like "break X windows". So you could break some windows to get the season pass XP which rewards only cosmetics.. but doing so will make noise and reveal your position in the game so increase your chance to lose -_- if you want to have fun breaking some windows for a cosmetic reward on your pass you can do that, if you ignore it there will be 0 negative on your entire gameplay, even the opposite. I was never bothered by the season pass I just ignore it, and I did buy a bunch of gcoins on pubg shop just to donate to game as I was satisfied with the updates/maintenance/support answers.] So I guess an obvious question is, how do you advance through the season pass in order to get the boosts and what are these boosts exactly? And, is it by doing the same stuff as you would for getting the cosmetic stuff of the pass? [<= which doesn't really matter, sounds like that would just be a paid cosmetic bonus] Anyway I repeat imo in the context of a ARPG I am interested in account wide stuff that may benefit all or other characters by playing other characters, especially when you can also still choose to just play one as well and reward differently..

Simberto gave a good answer. I have always disliked dailies, even when I first experienced them in GW. I complained about the system to my friends and they told me how it is in WoW and I realised how tame GW's dailies were, lol. I just dislike the idea of arbitrary limited rewards (daily, weekly, monthly, whatever). If a game makes them easy to ignore (everything you get in GW is tradable), I can live with it. It's similar for season tracks. If the game makes them easy to ignore, then I can live with it.
