Overall I still think the game doesn't benefit from being an MMO and is stronger in the areas where it locks other players out and I wonder how D4 is gonna differ. The rest looks decent I suppose. I like the new art style, the paragon board is a nice touch to make lategame more interesting and I don't mind the open world, if it's done well. Will keep an eye on this, but let's say my trust in Blizzard isn't at an all time high and the MMO parts fill me with scepticism.

I don't have much hope for this game after seeing Diablo Immoral, and have already come to terms with the fact that it will have a cash shop and some parts of it will be monetized. With that said however, I REALLY like the dark aesthetic of it and just hope it will be a good game out of the box. I also hope they'll have a more interesting endgame than just running endless rifts like in D3. Not too sure about the whole MMO aspect of it, but I'll be playing it solo like every other Diablo game and also without trading or auctioning things (hopefully). I just wont participate in World Events and World Bosses and go straight to dungeons (those will be instanced, right?)

I will likely try the game mostly because I logged into my long dormant WoW account a few years ago and exchanged all my remaining gold into cash that is just sitting in the Blizzard store. I'm not even sure I've used up the little money I got trying the D3 auction when it was available. I don't really play Blizzard games anymore other than f2p Hearthstone so even a few dozen hours is worth it for me since that money is stuck there anyway. I'm planning on just playing single player too unless they beat my admittedly low expectations for the multiplayer portion of it.

I'm really not looking forward to shared open world, either.

I think that soured me to blizzard products more than anything. I agree with Manit0u on this and at least for me it's not that I have to be always on, although I didn't like that about d3 as well. Diablo is supposed to be a world where civilization is under siege at all fronts. In Diablo 1 Diablo single handedly destroys the kingdom of Leoric. In D2 Diablo was on the move and mobilized hell to flood into a world that in many areas was already in decline or getting corrupted anyways by the sealed demons already present. Diablo 1 and 2 aren't horror games by any means, but definitely borrow from horror, from light radius limiting what you can see over tons of background depictions of violence to the perspective of people who are entirely helpless in the face of overpowering evil in cutscenes. The societies you find are collapsing under the tide of evil and the world is lethal for normal people and filled with monsters, you are just noticeably the exception of the rule. And then you load up Diablo immortal and it's full of dudes running around blowing up monsters every step of the way. The things that are supposed to present a danger to you are things you fight over for bounties. And it's not even because D:I is doing a horrible job, it's just that that's the way it is because it's an MMO. Every feeling of oppression, of danger is just gone.

Very well put.I feel like they already missed the mark so much with D3 in this regard. But yeah, being around many people takes away most of the flair, especially if the flair is supposed to be dread, horror, loneliness, lost etc.. Now imagine those players being equiped with flame amour and celestial unicorn shooting weapons, riding on massive bunnies and exploding fireworks: All available for $$ in the shop. It doesn't need p2w to destroy a game ('s immersion).

Diablo 4 development over at Blizzard seems to be going down pretty well, at least according to a tidbit from Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier. Schreier took to Twitter earlier this week to talk about an ongoing Diablo 4 playtest, even if those taking part are under NDA. Because of that NDA, we don't get too many details here. Even so, it seems as though things are progressing nicely with Diablo 4 development, with the reporter saying that's he heard 'mostly positive buzz' about the playtest. That's just as well, because Blizzard could do with a Diablo home run this time out. Diablo 2 Resurrected had more than its fair share of issues around launch and beyond, and mobile spin-off Diablo Immortal didn't land so hot with folks either. We're hoping 4 sticks its landing a little better. By the time it launches, the Xbox & ActiBlizz deal could be wrapped up, making Diablo 4 a potential first party Xbox release when it arrives in 2023. Source
