Mike McCarthy is somewhere laughing.
Everybody saw the 49ers blowing out the packers again after beating them down 37-8 two months ago, but nobody expected them to win by Mostert running the ball for 220 yards and 4td's. I'd bet Mike Shanahan's was heavily involved in creating this circa 2012 RG3 style run offense.
Titans went all the way to the Championship by running Henry, and during the Championship game they forget to run Henry and try to win a shootout with Mahomes by using Tannihill...smh

Titans/Vrabel knew they wouldn't keep up with KC offense by running with Henry given the way that the game trended in the first half. KC's defense played into Henry really well and they knew that going to Henry in the second half already down was probably a mistake and would further limit their access to the ball.

Henry had 19 carries for 69 yards. If Henry had 35 carries for 135 yards, I still think the Titans would have had a better shot in lue of Mahomes having less touches and Tannihill having 20 throws instead of 30, but Vrabel was getting spooked after a couple 1 yard runs resulting in 2nd & 9. The Titans had that brilliant 9 minute 15 play drive with Henry during the 2nd quarter, then abandoned what was working for them. If Tannihill leaves the Titans, maybe the Brady Vrabel bromance is back on.

The Cheifs strung together some offense and took the lead, it wouldn't have made sense for them to continue on with the same gameplan they were using while they had the lead.
I mean maybe Henry gets some momentum and gets them back down the field and they retake control of the game, but at that point the Titans were in some trouble and they had to try to pass their way back into it

it all started with the Mouse Davis Run and Shoot Offense in the early 80s.

I understend want u say, but still respectfully disagree. Titans trying to beat the Cheifs by having Tannihill become a gunslinger after him having back to back sub 100 yard games was a sub-optimal play. Titans were able to come back and win against KC during the reg season because Chiefs D was worn out by the end of the 3rd quarter from containing Henry the entire game and Vrabel held Tannihill to 19 pass attempts. The championship game was not going well for the Titans after the half, but if they stuck to their team identity instead of improvising, id argue they could have made the game closer.
It would be like KS telling Jimmy G to go win a air battle against Mahomes if the Niners get behind at the half in the SB. Could work, but more than likely would result in a couple int's. KC has the 26nd overall run defense, you have to exploit their weakness, not try to beat them at their own game. Jimmy G throws alot less than Mahomes but SF still averages scoring more points per game than KC. If Jimmy does win a shootout with Mahomeboy, BB is going make Robert Kraft fire himself.

You can't rely on the run when you're behind. It hamstrings clock management and limits your ability to quickly get points. When you're behind, you need bigger plays in order to push down the field and score points, while also keeping time on the clock to be able to get the ball back and have additional opportunities. Tennessee saw that the KC defense was trending in a way that the typical run style w/ Henry was not working, so rather than ram their head against the wall and continue to burn clock w/o the guarantee of first downs, they changed it up to prioritize getting downfield, knowing that KC offense would likely score again.
Momentum isn't a guarantee. Big plays are not a guarantee, even with a player like Henry. We always see gameplans where one week something works, the next it doesn't. Henry had a string of insane games, but that momentum doesn't last forever. KC played a great defensive game, and they have one of the best spy-backs in the game in Mathieu. It wasn't really a surprise that they went away from the run in the 2nd half. Tennessee's offense was built similarly to the Ravens where, if they get a lead early, run the ball to drain clock and wear the defense down. Unfortunately, KC was able to score big and quick, so that type of play doesn't work in that situation.
Also, your example of Shanahan/Jimmy G was weird - of course they are going to have Garappolo throw more if they are down. That is textbook football.

Jay Gruden confirmed as Jags Oc. Love the hire, ive been a big Jay Gruden fan for a few years now. I think he did very well considering how much of a shitshow the Redskins org is. Plus, if Doug Marrone gets canned next year he’d be an easy promotion to HC if needed.

Eli Manning has retired after 16 seasons, Not sure if he will make it into the HoF.
|
IMO he should not, yes he won superbowls but really he was just a above average QB not a HoF'r. But with the importance of superbowls and QB's they seem to place I wouldn't be shocked if he gets voted in.

Rodgers is kinda following Eli footsteps ever since he signed that big contract.
Rodgers used to cut thru the fog of pressure like a Montauk Point Lighthouse. Now if a D-Line applies substantial pressure, it weights on Aaron, he will refuse to play outside the numbers. The past couple years Rodgers is throwing to middle of the field too much and letting the clock run, while at a DEFICIT. Young Rodgers would have marched back and fourth in the pocket, look outside the numbers, throw to the outside WR, outside WR would toe tap catches the pass, and gets out of bounds to save the timeclock, and move down the field.
Rodgers is just 42-46 in his 88 all-time career road games, Eli is above .500, Rodgers lost to Eli in the playoffs in 2008, Rodgers has gotten himself injured several times while Eli has never missed a game due to injury, and still managed to get 2 SB rings. If Eli doesnt make it in, and Rodgers makes it in the HoF without winning another SB, some people will consider Aaron Brett Favre lite.

Wont be first ballot but I think it's too hard to say one way or the other what will happen
his super bowl win vs the 18-0 pats though is basically up there in lore with the Namath win though so I would probably bet on him getting in eventually
His last name will help his chances too

And Romo was better.

this 1000% tbh
I don't think there is any question if he gets in, and he clearly wasn't 'that good'. But that is not what the HoF is about anyways.
On a personal note, that superbowl made my month, gave me more satisfaction by far then any other one in my lifetime, and I will forgive eli manning anything and everything forever for it. If I had a vote he'd be first ballot.

IDK, Eli going to the HOF would just feel like a by default achievement. HOF should be reserved for player who were irreplaceable at their position, switch Eli with a Joe Flaco, a Tony Romo or a Philip River and you wouldn't be losing anything.
He had clutch SB drives, but his games overall were not outerwordly either. I mean against the 18-0 Pats lets not forget the defense held Brady and co to 14 points, their lowest point total of the season. 17 points would have loss them the game every other weeks.
|
I’m always of the belief that HOF should be exactly that - dedicated to players who were famous enough to be included. There is no question that Eli has the fame to make it, but as many say, his stats aren’t deserving.
I’m if the opinion that Eli will get in eventually. Maybe not first ballot, but I think he will inevitably get in.
|
I think he will eventually make it as well, because of Market and SB wins. I just think he is that good of a QB and just got in a great situation. I mean the escape was cool, but without that crazy catch, and the amazing defense he would have won.
Like how often was Eli even the best player on his own team?
