So when I heard other people espouse similar views I could at least understand where it may of came from or why. It was much more helpful then for example nettles post and run move.
Edit: I guess what I'm trying to say is I'm sad it happened. But I understand why it did.

Even if they DON'T all agree to this, it seems pretty clear what the currently active/relevant mods' inclinations are. In other words, arguing against any hypothetical double standard is pointless even if it is present. It's well-known that there are plenty of double standards here. Mods that "don't moderate the thread" except when they want to use it to settle grudges, mods that ban one user for something another gets to do without punishment, and, perhaps the most relevant, mods that want to claim that there's a consistent standard for how moderation is done while wanting to reserve the right to clarify nothing about said standard and moderate in a manner that is often seen as capricious.
Approaching this with the "if you don't like it, then just leave" strategy is certainly within their right as a moderation staff. In my eyes it's kind of petty and childish to do that on a consistent basis, but it seems like it's more or less the precedent. I do know that at least a few of the folks on the moderation staff don't really think that's the direction that should be taken, and that a perception of fairness really should play a role in how moderation is done. I don't really know that said people fit into the "active/relevant mods" that you mention, though.
But when you do take on a "if you don't like it, then just leave" approach to all problems, a lot of people end up doing just that. Including, over the years, the vast majority of the people in the thread(s) who actually have something meaningful to contribute. All I seem to see now whenever I come back to look at these threads is... person A coming to the meta-thread to bait person B in the hope that B will say something banworthy, and a large crowd cheering on A because that B fellow just can't stop with his "hot takes" in the main thread. If that's what you refer to as "sustainable" then maybe the real problem is that it isn't worth sustaining in the first place.

If we used the USPOL thread to settle grudges I think the thread would be empty.

Which was hilarious because he just assumed he was some kinda celebrity that TL would of course accommodate. It was really weird seeing him go through a phase of thinking he was some kinda icon LOL

I'm not sure if it was that, or just a extreme confidence in what he was saying. I know I'm in the minority, but I enjoyed his posts and was disappointed when he was banned. But that doesn't mean that I don't understand why it happened. TL is a business and they can choose who they want to be their customer and what their brand is. If you choose to be something they don't want, that is your choice and it is theirs if they keep you.

i felt that way until he made it sufficiently clear he had just been waiting to express his less desirable beliefs. i appreciated most posts, but once the last few passed it couldn’t be quick enough that he’d be gone, imo. i think i even got the report credit.

As someone who actually talked with him and exchanged pm's with him I get the feeling he became more and more disillusioned with the whole system and had less and less respect for his fellow posters and the moderation staff. Specifically, he was almost happy with the fact that right-wing posters were told to leave at the start of the new us politics thread. I think after that it was just inevitable with the thread atmosphere and the mods inconsistencies that he was going to flame out.
Hes probably happier today then he was a month ago and we should at least think positively for that.

I'm going to jump on this one as well: What? Source please. I was there from the minute the current thread went up, and I do not remember anything of the sort.

I think he is talking about the US mega blog, where GH Danglars and xDaunt could post but couldn't on the main thread at that time. And the other non-actioned people could post on both.
|
You're wrong. This is the new thread. And this is the old one.
|
I don't think that is what he was referencing since there was no second thread running at that time. But I guess with multiple options on serm can answer what he means.
|
So right wing = white supremacism as far as Sermakola is concerned? Always wondered what it meant. Glad we cleared that up.
|
That comment is neither fair to serm or necessary. It does nothing to move any conversation forward and only serves to insult a member of the community. Come on man.

It’s reflective of the mentality that xDaunt got singled out for being conservative (although weirdly a bunch of other conservatives didn’t), rather than for being the awful person he chooses to be. Some people love their victim narratives.
|
Where were they told to leave the thread though? Link to post?

Let’s not accuse the center/right moderate of having a far-right victim complex or softening supposed white supremacist bans. Unless you absolutely like to clown around. Sent linked the old thread and new thread, so go read what he wrote in website feedback after the date the thread changed over.

I'm sorry but I don't understand. Can't I just get a link to the post that has this:

No no. With a lack of easily avilable evidence, you are supposed to dig through it to find it yourself, not the accuser.
